"Fair and Balanced"

You only wear a Hitler Mustache for two reasons: to elicit an ironic laugh or because you are way off the reservation. People only say, "Fair and Balanced," for the same reasons.

When I saw O'Reilly on the Tonight Show last night he was defending Chris Wallace when he said (paraphrasing), "...and he's fair and balanced just like the rest of us at Fox News," the audience laughed like it was a punch line.

I don't think Fair and Balanced is quite The Hitler Mustache yet, but it's close.

(How about fulfilling Godwinn's Law in the title of a thread, btw :D)

i don't know what you're talking about nick....but chris wallace did not do anything wrong. and as a matter of fact i think clinton came off pretty poorly during the interview.

and today i saw clips of sunday's show where chris wallace showed examples of him asking the same tough questions to donald rumsfeld as he did to clinton.

the problem that liberals like yourself have with fox is that for the first time there is a network that is presenting a different point of view than what the liberals are used to seeing from the media....& judging from the ratings the american public is in agreement with it...& the liberals don't like it.

I think what Nick was trying to say is that the catch phrase "Fair and Balanced" is carrying as much negative connotation with it today than it does good. And with negative, I mean ridicule.

I don't watch enough "news" channels to give an opinion on the content, but I do see many people raise a lot of jokes on this board over Fox's tag line.

I think you guys are missing the point. Nick Douglas used a very strange analogy with 'Hitler Moustache', but I think what he's trying the say is the phrase "fair and balanced" has basically become an ironic punchline at this point.

Whether fair or not, the phrase (because of Fox) is now a joke to most. If your in a social setting and someone calls something "fair and balanced" people will laugh because it will either be intended as ironic or received that way. Of course none of this would be possible if not for the wide popularity of Fox News. They struck a chord with many people who wanted a TV version of the right wing radio shows.

regardless of what was said....after decades of cornering the ideology market, the extreme libs are beside themselves that there is now an alternative.....

and that alternative is kicking their asses in the ratings.......

the real fact is that liberals(msm, hollywood, academia, the courts) now have to deal with an alternative voice(fox, talk radio,etc).....and they don`t like it one bit...

they still overwhelm our culture....but,that`s not good enough for them...

that`s how fair and balanced THEY are......

....

Sure they do. That's why this entire site is in a panic today. It's because of liberals overwhelming our culture that Frist decided to nail internet gaming.

I don't follow it closely enough, but I will assume that this bill is more supported by Republicans.

But outside of Congress, is the gambling issue really divided down Liberal/Conservative lines?

My guess is that it is not, thus the wide variety of opinions in this particular forum on a gambling board.

Sponge, you're missing a fine opportunity to berate Fox News. What the hell is wrong with you??

My personal watch time for Fox News this week = 5 minutes when I was looking for coverage of the Pennsylvania Amish shooting. I'm getting behind on my playbook, Sponge. Maybe you could fill me in on what I missed and help me with my goose-stepping.

I was just pointing something out about the slogan, as a few of you said. I probably watch as much FNC as I do the other channels because they have good personalities. I'll admit there's also some element of the old saying, "keep your friends close and your enemies closer."

......................................................

Lets face it. The only reason Clinton acted that way was because he needed to make a statement for Hillary's sake.

Bills past record is closely associated with the publics thinking about how Hillary would react to terror etc.

I can see Clinton now if Hillary gets in , feet propped up in the oval office smoking cigars.
He probably won't be thinking about world issues though.

Certainly not a Clinton evangelist, but I disagree with the last statement here.

I think he really enjoys his world efforts and will continue being the figurehead for this. He gets criticism because people say he doesn't really DO anything. But there is no question he creates buzz for them. And for non-profits, buzz is a direct link to revenue.

it never ceases to amaze me...how this scumbag foley is the devil for sending pornographic e mails to a 16 year old(i`m not defending it...just making a statement)....which by all accounts he never acted upon.....

and clinton is master of the world...despite being an obvious liar(not knowing the meaning of "is").....sticking a cigar up the coochie of some young intern that he was supposed to be a mentor for....

foley does the correct thing and resigns....and hopefully,if theres anything there to prosecuted for,he`ll be prosected....

yet, clinton`s a hero...barney franks stays in office....gary studds(read up on it...he got a standing "o" from his democratic cohorts after the scandal) stays in office after actually having sex with a youngster.....

is there a double standard?....

wtf don`t the dems resign?....why don`t they weed the scum out of their ranks?...

based on that, why should they have the moral high ground?....

the answer?...the media,,,,it`s story...how it`s presented....pounded.....

I'll always remember gardenweasel as a guy who really hated the media. ....I mean really really really hated them.

Pelosi did ask William Jefferson to resign when they found cash in his tupperware. ...So they have that going for them of late.

Bubba really has made quite an impression on some of y'all. It's been 6 years and the obsession is as strong as ever with many. Republicans have been very strong for a long time now. They can take on anything - almost like a super hero. But Clinton is like kryptonite. He strikes fear in the hearts of neo conservatives across the land. They know they can't defeat him, and are becoming increasingly worried that they can't defeat his wife either.
