Big game for T-town as they have a nationally televised home game for the first time in a long time (not sure of the exact date, but the only time I've seen Tulsa play on TV is during their bowl games in 2003 & 2005).

Tulsa has a solid QB in Paul Smith who is 80 for 121 with 962 yards passing 9 TD's & 3 INT's. Smith is a junior and he's a winner. He really impressed me in Tulsa's upset win @ Fresno in last year's bowl game. Southern Miss has a solid RB in Damion Fletcher averaging 122 yards rushing per game. Fletcher will get his yards against Tulsa's defense that is allowing 161 yards rushing and 4.3 ypc this season. Fletcher is a small freshman at 175 to 180 pounds. He'll be much better when he adds some weight to his slight build.

Tulsa is 7-1 ATS their last 8 games while Southern Miss is 1-7 ATS their last 8 games dating back to last season... Tulsa is 13-3 ATS their last 16 games vs. a team with a winning record... the Golden Hurricane have been a money making machine as they are 12-4 ATS since the beginning of the 2005 season. Southern Miss is already 0-2 ATS on the road this season. I think they are going to have trouble again tomorrow night (road game on Tuesday for 2nd consecutive week doesn't sound easy IMO).
Tulsa won 34-17 @ Southern Miss last season... I think we are likely to see a similiar score tomorrow. Heat could be a factor as temps have been in the mid to upper 90's, unbelievably hot for October.

Tulsa -5 for 6*... Not incredibly wild about this game, but it's the only game on the schedule and I think you have to side with Tulsa. If the Golden Hurricane get an early lead, Southern Miss will have a tough time because their QB isn't very good (stating the obvious). I would expect a good crowd as well since Tulsa never gets to play on TV.

Prediction: Tulsa 31 Southern Miss 17:SIB

IE,

Weather is extremely hot in the Midwest. It was 96 degrees at my house in Kansas City today and it's supposed to be 95 tomorrow... Tulsa is getting the same weather. All time record high temperatures for October.

Merrill to play against Tulsa, Bower says

HATTIESBURG ? Defensive tackle Sean Merrill will make the trip to Tulsa and that he expects the Golden Eagles' top run-plugger to play against the Golden Hurricane Tuesday night at Skelly Stadium, Southern Miss football coach Jeff Bower says.

"He's fine," Bower said Sunday. "I think he'll be ready to go. We're planning on playing him."

Merrill did not make the trip to UCF last week because of a sprained ankle, and he has been limited in practice this past week as the Golden Eagles prepared to visit C-USA's defending champion.

If he can't go, junior Vontre Mason would make a second consecutive start.

Nice write up D.

My only problem is Tulsa doesn't look as good as they did when they won CUSA last year.
Southern Miss' D is no where near what it was last year, too.
I'm leaning Tulsa, but haven't made up my mind yet.

Juu3,

People from Tulsa call it T-Town... I was using their nickname.

I know Green Bay used to be known as Title Town as well.

By the way, I wouldn't advise anyone to go overboard on this game. It's C-USA and anything can and normally does happen. A lot of times it's better to expect the unexpected.

FWIW: Gold Sheet predicted Tulsa 31-20.

Take Care!

Good info D. I saw So. Miss play the other night- I had C. Fla. I was impressed w/the Fr. running back for So. Miss. I have not seen Tulsa this year? They are allowing 160 rushing p/game.

Consensus:

Southern Mississippi 452-786 36.51%
Tulsa 786-452 63.49%

I think the OVER looks pretty good

Dr. Fade,

What's up buddy? I predicted 31-17, but I didn't touch the total... glad Tulsa is going to win by exactly 14 points as I predicted. I've been on a huge run the past 9 days... it's been real nice! Too busy to get out during the week as I've had crap to do all the time. See ya at one of the local drinking holes sooner than later.
