Big game for T-town as they have a nationally televised home game for the first time in a long time (not sure of the exact date, but the only time I've seen Tulsa play on TV is during their bowl games in 2003 & 2005).
Tulsa has a solid QB in Paul Smith who is 80 for 121 with 962 yards passing 9 TD's & 3 INT's. Smith is a junior and he's a winner. He really impressed me in Tulsa's upset win @ Fresno in last year's bowl game. Southern Miss has a solid RB in Damion Fletcher averaging 122 yards rushing per game. Fletcher will get his yards against Tulsa's defense that is allowing 161 yards rushing and 4.3 ypc this season. Fletcher is a small freshman at 175 to 180 pounds. He'll be much better when he adds some weight to his slight build.
Tulsa is 7-1 ATS their last 8 games while Southern Miss is 1-7 ATS their last 8 games dating back to last season... Tulsa is 13-3 ATS their last 16 games vs. a team with a winning record... the Golden Hurricane have been a money making machine as they are 12-4 ATS since the beginning of the 2005 season. Southern Miss is already 0-2 ATS on the road this season. I think they are going to have trouble again tomorrow night (road game on Tuesday for 2nd consecutive week doesn't sound easy IMO).
Tulsa won 34-17 @ Southern Miss last season... I think we are likely to see a similiar score tomorrow. Heat could be a factor as temps have been in the mid to upper 90's, unbelievably hot for October.
Tulsa -5 for 6*... Not incredibly wild about this game, but it's the only game on the schedule and I think you have to side with Tulsa. If the Golden Hurricane get an early lead, Southern Miss will have a tough time because their QB isn't very good (stating the obvious). I would expect a good crowd as well since Tulsa never gets to play on TV.
Prediction: Tulsa 31 Southern Miss 17:SIB
