Northwestern/Wisconsin under 45: Badgers are playing very good football, especially defensively. Wildcats are really struggling offensively but are not terrible defensively. I think both teams will be determined to run the ball and neither QB is good enough to do any real damage. I can see Wisky getting around 31 points but I don't know that NW can get in the end zone more than once. Call it 31-10, Badgers.

Arkansas St. -5.5 ULM: ASU seems to play well when they have a chance to win (Army and FIU) and lay down when they don't (SMU and Oklahoma St.) Fortunately, this game falls into the first category. The conference schedule is setting up nicely for ASU and they have a good chance to go 4-0 before a showdown with MTSU. Reggie Arnold should have a field day against ULM's defense. He needs to have a big day to keep ULM passing game off the field. ULM lost a tough one last week but it was to a rotten FAU team. If ASU can get off to a good start, they should cover this number fairly easily. I like the Indians by 10.

Division I-AA

Division I-AA

Slim pickings in Division I-AA this week:

Sacred Heart +10 over Monmouth: Monmouth is 4-1 but haven't played a difficult schedule. Sacred Heart has competed in every game and had a big win last week against Wagner.

Wofford -3.5 over The Citadel: The Citadel is definitely improving but not enough to stay within a FG here. Wofford hung in against Furman and South Carolina and should roll in this one. Their running game should wear down The Citadel in the second half and they should win by a TD.

Winston-Salem -1.5 over Howard: W-S runs the ball pretty well and Howard hasn't shown any ability to stop the run. This line should be around 10 so laying less than a FG is a good play.

Lean to McNeese St. but they fired their coach this and I don't know how this will effect the team.

BG,

Talk to me about Toledo -3 this weekend at home against CM. I love Toledo in this spot. However, the line is a little suspect. You are more of the MAC guru and I just cannot figure that conference out this year.

Amstutz is trying to make the best of the situation right now (Blade Article) but they have some question marks. I haven't heard if Cochran is going to play and if he does, how effective will he be. The backup appears to be a true freshman. The defense is giving up alot of yards and points (again). Sneed could go off for a big game. I'm staying away until I find out about Cochran--then I might look at the total. Sorry I couldn't help much.

I like the plays, BG.

Couple others I am looking at are Duquesne +3 (it started at -1...???) They look like the better team and have been good against the Patriot League but the line moved 4 points...strange.

Yale -10
McNeese -1

Spalding,
I'm going to play McNeese, too. But I'm going to wait and see if we get any line adjustment once everyone is aware of the coach getting fired. After doing some research on the situation, I don't think that is going to be a big factor but it may move the line. I also like UC Davis against Cal Poly. The line opened at PK and is now at +2. My numbers show the line should be UC Davis -5.5. Any thoughts on that one?

That is probably the biggest toss-up on the board. Both with great D?s but Davis has a better O---Poly can?t score for some reason. This is a very even matchup, I am gonna lay off but I would love to watch it!

Duquesne +3 over Fordham: With the line movement this is now a play. I have the line at Duquesne -7. Fordham somehow managed to stay within a TD of Holy Cross last week but the score is misleading. HC turned the ball over 3 times in Fordham territory and Fordham ran a kickoff back 100 yards for a TD. Duquesne lost last week to West Liberty when they threw four interceptions and got down early 21-6. They came back to within 21-19 but missed a two-point conversion to tie. Dukes average almost 300 ypg throwing and should be able to get that against Rams marginal pass defense. Duquesne is not great defensively but solid enough to keep the weak Fordham offense in check.

Penn St. -2.5 (-115) over Minnesota: Plenty of -3 +100's out there but there are also several -2.5's. Gophers haven't impressed me this year. Last week Michigan was in total control and the week before that they lost to Purdue. Offensively, they have decent stats but alot of that came against Temple and Kent. PSU has played well this year aside from the ND game. They had the ball down 8 in the last two minutes against OSU and came back from that disappointment to pound NW in a situation they could have very easily let down. They are getting better offensively and the defense is tough. They have a big game next week against Michigan so they could get caught looking ahead but I don't think so. Lions take care of business this week and put the books in a tough spot next week setting the opening line.
