South Florida(-6') over Connecticut (1*)
- - Simply reviewing my frequent wagers involving Connecticut in recent years would suggest someone with a belief that the Huskies ascension through 2004 has failed to sustain itself and has now slipped back a notch . . . South Florida was more or less a huge surprise in 2005 until reaching some rarified air that was beyond itself, but remains a dangerous club with plenty of talent and solid coaching . . . Navy was off an excruciating loss when it visited Connecticut last week and left no doubt which team was still on track. Now South Florida is off two fairly excruciating losses as it plays host to Connecticut after last year's noteworthy 15-10 November loss . . . While the matchup strengths on offense and defense between Navy and South Florida are entirely dissimilar, I think the statement to be made this week as to which team is on it's game and which team has a ways to go is remarkably similar.

Tennessee(-2' & -2) over Georgia (1*)
- - No denying Georgia's glittering success under Mark Richt, and the ability to do it with defense when needed has been a staple. On the other hand, since the frenzy of opening day which the Junkyard Dogs dedicated to the memory of longtime defensive coordinator Erk Russell, the team has not really taken on any special identity under any of its quarterbacks, and in fact has hinted at something contrary . . . Meanwhile, Tennessee is one big conference win from staking it's claim as the most improved team in the country, and from leaving little doubt about the exceptional jobs being done by Fulmer and Cutcliffe, having built this year's team on a solid foundation during the long offseason months, and seeing that effort consistently manifest itself on the field in so many little areas that exemplify a poise, proficiency and camaraderie that is hard to question . . . I really think the Volunteers want this one a little bit more and have done what's necessary to step up and take it.

Keith Jackson gets the call:

- - They?re all jacked up.
- - He lays him flatter than a kitchen table.
- - The field tilts, they're big people.
- - They?ve traded a lot of paint down in the trenches.
- - He was half a step from being long gone.
- - They got on the front porch, but they can?t squeeze in the front door.
- - Two big ol? buffaloes there, they got their horns locked.
- - You beat on him and beat on him like an old church bell and suddenly he throws a touchdown.
- - Let?s see if Ol? Mo has changed shirts.
- - If there?s something in the catalog under ?trickery? now?s a good time.
- - Fate is a fickle thing, isn't it?
- - They've made their mountain a little higher.
- - And that's your door-slammer!
- - They?re runnin? all the clean shirts into the ballgame.
