Hudson Valley area.....NY
1st want to thank everyone for all the advice here on my trip to Chicago..I used a lot of it

The city of Chicago blew me away. maybe that why they call it the windy city.I have never been there. One of the cleaniest cities I have ever seen. The skyline buildings are almost equal to NY and maybe even better. The archtitect were amazing.Lake shore Drive along Lake Michigan was unreal.Beaches,4-5 foot waves, and a green lake.never would I have imagined that.lake Michigan looked green-blue and clean.I thought it would be kinda dark blue maybe like my Hudson river. On friday am we went to King Tuts expedition next to soldiers field. Soldiers field is new.I'm thinking its a run down football stadium with those old columns. Damn....we had a guy let us in to see the stadium. I got to see where "da bears" play.
We stayed the 1st nite at a Marriot in rosemont. After checking out..we went over to Wrigley Field to see the Cubs play. All my life I wanted to go to wrigley.Walking in the neighborhood and then just coming to one intersection and "viola". There is Wrigley. What a "high".last time I was that high i was a freshman at North Texas in 1969.It would take me another hour to tell you all everything inside Wrigley. The ballpark is in a timezone.I see Ernie banks and Billy Williams out there.Try to picture what field was babe ruth pointing to before he hit that famos homer.I loved Wrigley..And of course it was an afternoon game and they were playing the Rockies.I also played the Rockies -1.5 runs. How can you not bet against the Cubs..The day went perfect. Weather, fans, and of course Rockies won by 4 or 5 runs.Imagine one game payed for my hotel bill in chicago. Thank you cubs...
We left Wrigley..off to South bend to see notre dame on sat. We stayed in Valparsio around 45 minuts from South Bend.somehow on the interstate the guy at the toll booth had us get off early and take RT 20 or 30. We ended up driving thru Gary,Indiana..Holy sh.... On one strecth for about 5 miles all we saw were.. liquor stores, strip joints and adult videos stores.Burned out bowling alleys, stores, gas stations, etc. They even had a store called " ALLMart".I guess the W was missing. Then we realized this store isn't a part of sam waltons chain.I know there are some of you Indiana people out there but Gary was probaly the ugliest city and place i have ever seen.I'm sure there is a nice section but not on the way to valparsio.
We found out that my buddy and me were pronouncing Valparsio wrong. We soon were told everyone calls it Valpo. Valpo was a nice little city.went to a great steakhouse and had fun. but the biggest problem was timezones. what a nightmare.Chicago is on central time..we thought valpo was on eastern. South bend is on eastern. We had to be in the main gate of ND's stadium at 8.30 am on saturday.we were meeting the ND equipement manager for a tour of the ND lockeroom. he's from NY and my asst principal at my school and him are close friends. We leave a wakeup call for 6.45 am.figure we shower, get coffee, etc and we leave at 7.15. get to ND around 8,and walk to the football stadium.Around 2.00 am my buddy wakes me..we need the wakeup call at 5.45.Its 7.45 in south bend when we would of gotten up. We found it so confusing in those 2 days when were constanly crossing over back and forth into 2 timezones.
anyway...as usual my posts are long and boring. I'll continue later with arriving in South bend. The lockeroom, the bookstore, the campus, the golden dome, digger phelps, the grotto, the mass and the priest. The glee club, touchdown jesus, Purdues golden girls, and of course the game.
That will be in part 2..for the 3 people intrested.

Glad you had a great time in Chi-town, I guess being from here and being able to go to a cubs game just about anytime I want, I take it for granted. It's nice to see other people's takes on it.
