Tenn (-11) over Alabama
I am not sold on Bama this year but Tenn will focus their full effort on them. Putting up 44 offensive points two weeks ago against a Georgia team allowing only 6.8 points per game, the Vols made a dramatic statement about their growth as an offensive football team. With QB Erik Ainge, three capable backs and three dangerous receivers playing behind an offensive line that has played much better the past two weeks, the Vols lead the SEC with 35.2 points and 421.5 yards per game. Tennessee is allowing 19 points and 290 yards per game. Despite season-ending injuries to two starters, the Vols are getting better by the week with seven new starters. With 434 total yards against Ole Miss for its second-best total of the season, as well as 228 rushing yards and 21 first downs, Alabama is in the top six in the SEC in total, rushing and passing offense. Yet, with only two touchdowns in regulation against Ole Miss, Alabama continues to struggle in the red zone with only 11 touchdowns on 32 trips inside opponent's 20-yard line. That makes the Crimson Tide seventh in the SEC in scoring, with 24.4 points per game. Alabama is last in the SEC with only six sacks. Despite the lack of sacks, the Crimson Tide still ranks first in a more important category with 17 takeaways, including 10 INTs. The SEC's two best receivers will be on display with Alabama's D.J. Hall and Tennessee's Robert Meachem. Phil Fulmer is 10-3 against Alabama and will get his 11th with several big plays from the passing game and a nice, but not sensational day from the D. Considering the Defense, the offense, the offensive Co, the talent at WR the Vols have an edge, then you have to look at the Tenn defense and the home field advantage to add to that edge. IMO alabama is a bit over sold this year and Tenn should have too much speed and talent on both sides of the ball in this game.
Cheers
