Virginia -6 over UNC: Two teams headed in opposite directions. UVA blew one last week against Maryland but is starting to get things going with Sewell at QB. UNC is not showing any signs of stopping anyone. A night game in Virginia on Thursday night gives the Wahoos enough energy to cover this number.

Wisky -6 over Purdon't: Is Purdue the weakest 5-2 team in the country? I'm not real impressed with wins over Ball St., Miami (OH) in ot, Indiana St., Northwestern and Minnesota. They got smoked by Notre Dame and Iowa and in my opinion Wisconsin is as good as those teams. Badgers defense is strong and Hill should rush for a ton of yards. The only reason I'm not putting two units on this one is that Wisky is on the road.

Arkansas St./North Texas under 40.5: Both teams like to run the ball mainly because they have mediocre (I'm being nice) quarterbacks. Reggie Arnold is banged up for Arkansas St. but should play and Jamario Thomas should get 25 carries for NT. This should be a grinder especially with no clear-cut favorite in the conference, probably a 17-6 type of game.

MTSU -3.5 over ULM: Monroe keeps hanging around in games, mainly because teams are making stupid mistakes against them. They are now 0-3 in the conference and we will probably see some quit in them. MTSU is 2-0 and has a big game next week against ULL. They have always been one of the most talented (and disappointing) teams in the conference but this might be their year. I don't see them letting down in this situation.

Anyone else thinking about laying the chalk with Byrnes (SC) -4 over Gaffney? Even though they are going on the road I don't see Gaffney being able to stop Byrnes offense. Also Byrnes has played on TV two times already this season and Gaffney has not. I thought this line would have been around 7.5.

Hampton -2.5 over S. Carolina St.: SCSU has had some success against some average teams but Hampton will be too athletic on defense for S. Carolina St. to move the ball consistently. This line is moving quickly up and should close at around 5 or 6. Even at that number, I still think Hampton covers easily.

Samford +15 over Tenn-Martin: TM has some very good rushing offense stats but a lot of those yards came against Tenn Tech and Austin Peay. Samford is much better than those two teams. I don't think TM has played well enough against a weak schedule to warrant being a two TD favorite against anyone. Samford needs two scores to cover this one.

N. Iowa +7.5 over Youngstown St.: Big showdown in the Gateway Conference between two teams who both average over 200 yards rushing. YSU might be a little weaker defensively and will struggle if NIU gets the lead. In a big game like this, I'll take the points.

Penn +6.5 over Yale: I like the better defensive team and the points.
