Ferentz: Tate to miss time with injury
By Iowa City Press-Citizen
"Drew Tate's injured thumb could keep the Iowa quarterback off the field for Saturday's game against Northern Illinois.
On his Sunday night television show, coach Kirk Ferentz said he expects the injury to sideline Tate, but did not specify whether he meant the senior would miss practice time or game time.
"I think it's a significant injury," Ferentz said on the show. "I think we're looking at some missed time with Drew."
On a play in the first quarter of Saturday's 20-6 loss to Michigan in Ann Arbor, the right-handed Tate spun away from the rush of Wolverine defensive end Tim Jamison and reached down to brace himself on the turf, injuring the thumb on his left hand in the process and taking a 12-yard loss. Tate stayed in the game, and Michigan's Shawn Crable stripped him of the ball on the following play.
Tate, who played the final three quarters and threw for 197 yards on 21-of-36 passing despite constant pressure and suffering a number of big hits, underwent X-rays after the game, but the results have not been made public.
Ferentz told reporters in his postgame press conference that removing Tate from the game was "not even a consideration."
This would not be the first time this season that an injury has slowed Tate. He sat out Iowa's second game at Syracuse with an abdominal strain that nagged him in the early weeks of the season. Senior backup Jason Manson started in his place and Iowa escaped the Orange 20-13 in overtime.
Tate has completed 59.2 percent of his passes this fall for 1,678 yards, 11 touchdowns and six interceptions in seven games. Manson has thrown for 210 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions. Redshirt freshman quarterback Jake Christensen has completed 3-of-3 passes for 19 yards in limited action.
Manson and Christensen are both listed in the No. 2 QB slot on Iowa's depth chart.
Ferentz also said on his television show that X-rays on Adam Shada's ankle were negative, but the junior cornerback is likely to miss at least a week.
Iowa, which has lost two straight games on the road, returns to Kinnick Stadium on Saturday for an 11 a.m. game with Northern Illinois."
this is ????...it`s a left hand injury.....and the article doesn`t state whether he`ll play saturday or not....
something to keep your eye on....an fyi...
