today I got a call from a guy that works for millenium sportsbook and he told me about aweek before they were shut down that they held a drawing for the mercedes s65 and that I was a winner.
I was given a receipt # and a phone number to call maersk sealand and make the shipping arangements.
I'm supposed to send 2 seperate western union money orders totaling 4100.00
the car is supposed to be at port limon in costa rica and the money is for shipping to miami then for 900. shipping to my house this is optional.

What should I do? am I bieng scammed? how to find out if this legit.
from my findings there is a mercedes dealer across the street form the building millenium was in.
I tried calling the dealer to find out if they had sold any to millenium but I get no answer. dont know what time it is there.

please help me

Not a fu(king chance dude,

don't get yourself all worked up over this. If temptation gets the best of you, tell them that you will fly to the location to claim your "prize" and will arrange your own shipping. See what their response to that idea will be.

Not trying to be harsh, just trying to save you some cheese.

I could only imagine how many other people they called. It wouldn't suprise me if ex staff members are selling our information. The suggestion given to you is good. Call their bluff and make it seem like your going to go down there.

If shipping is not included, then yes it is a scam.

Anytime you have to pay to receive your prize then it is a scam.

help again

help again

okay guys, I called his bluff and told him I was going to move my vacation up 2 weeks and fly down to pick up the car and then make arrangemensts to ship it home myself.

He said it would be fine that I needed to be able to insure it asap and that maersk sealand would have their attorneys there to handle paperwork etc.

Later this afternoon he sent me an email that had my acct. number from betmill.com and a snapshot of the webpage with the sweepstakes on it he had dug up after I asked for some verification.

I know if it sounds to good to be true then it is but man this is tough because everything seems ok except for paying for shipping.

None of us could be 100% certain if this is a fraud. I would hate to mislead you if it was true. Take it a step further and tell him your lawyer would like to speak to him or their lawyers. Then have an intelligent sounding buddy call and ask probing questions. This kind of reminds me of a story. I was sending funds Western Union to a book. An old man was in front of me saying he won a lottery and all he had to do was send in 3k for taxes. Well he had the 3K and sent it. I tried to talk sense into him as did the WU lady at K-Mart. In the end it was his decision. Although I don't know 100%, I'm sure he didn't see a penny. To my knowledge these books haven't paid account, but they are willing to award a Mercedes. Once you have a gut feeling that it is a fake you should fudge with them. Tell them you will send the cash. Go to WU and send them $1. It will cost you maybe $15, but the idiots will be so excited to pick up the funds then they will have the suprise of their life. Watch out though. Maybe they'll track you down in the states!

If nothing else makes you run--2 things certainly should--

asking for payment via money order
and trying to rush you (ASAP)

if you want to have him quit bothering you ask him for his physical address and tell him you'll retain an attorney to stop by and discuss details with him.

i can tell you with 100% certainty that this is a common scam in CR. I am an ex bos/mill employee and i can guarantee you that nothing will come of this. Unfortuanately several employees took customers personal info when they left and are using the emails and phone number to either push other books or some new form of scam. Dont waste your time and tell your friends. The normal scam is telling you, that you won a sweepstakes and that there is an insurance fee generally a couple grand in cash for them to send you the money and people do it. when they call back they act like they never heard of them

Sounds like crap to me but have you tried contacting Maersk Sealand? They are a big shipping company. Maybe speding a couple hundred on a PI or lawyer down there is the way to go instead of $4 G's. Maybe the police would look into it if you could supply a phone # or address. I know they got better things to do but a scam would make it illegal (fraud).

lets recap.... you won a prize in which you need to send them $8200 to get it. sure..... it seems someone is going to get a prize....it just will not be you. be smart

if you really think you won it... get an escrow service of YOUR choice that will release the money to them only after you receive the car.

This is kind of my concern with sportsbook.com changing hands now. Who bought it (a mysterious group of private investors) and what are they going to do with it now.
