Hello my name is Kirk and I am new here. I have a question to pose to the members? Do you believe that the races are fixed? I have noticed that most of these tracks seem to be a running 2/5, 1/9 and
7/2 have been running off the board. I personally believe that all races are fixed in some form. I believe that for several reasons I won't go into now. What do you all think?

Yes Kirk some races are fixed. The thing you have to do is take that into consideration in your handicapping. I follow harness racing very close. You do see things. Best advice stay away from betting cheap races and maidens.

What did the favorite break? It happens. Let me guess. Palone was on an overbet favorite and he ran out of the $$$. Happens all the time at that dump.

As I wrote in the other thread on this subject I play a odds system with my picks. At the Meadows I will usually bet against Palone for 1 reason and that is value. He will win alot of races he has been the top drive at the Meadoes for awhile. The thing is he has no betting odds.

I usually don't get to see articles about fixed races, but I'm interested in hearing about proven instances. Some of hand that I know of in harness was at Freehold say 5 years ago. I forget the drivers but a couple of them were in on it. They awere all favorites and they finished out of the $$$. One of them, their limo driver cashed in some big tickets for the race. They were suspended. Geez, you think you would ban them for life.
Another idiot at Plainridge got caught making bets for a race he was in. he was the favorite, but he didn;t bet himself. They rules it as ignorance, nothing more.
Two years ago at Tampa, a jockey got caught by a sharp eyed deputy with a buzzer in his hand minutes before the race. His horse was scratched and I'm sure he was suspended or even banned. Crimianl charges came out of it as well. Anyone else have any stories?

I'm a Harness follower..........

I grew-up @ Pocono Downs and might be their this afternoon. Dover is running as well as the new Pa. Track which is getting ready for the slots, Chester. All the boys from the Meadowlands are at Chester and Tim Tetrick is at Dover today.

I'll use

#5 in the 8th
#5 in the 9th
#9 in the 13th

@ Dover

Lucy you said "I live right down the road from Pocono Downs"

Do you remember the near riot @ Pocono years ago, bench's and all thrown out on the track after some obvious things happening that led people to believe the "Fix is in"

My brother nicknamed one driver now a trainer married to a lady driver or vice verse, The Theif.........

Funny you mention "the riot". I'm 30 years old and it was before my time. I did read a story about it in The Times Leader. They had a flashback article or something like that. The article said that a race had obviously been fixed and people went bananas. The benches were lit on fire. I think it was harness at the time. I'm not 100% sure on that. I read they had flats there. I still wonder to this day how they had thoroughbreds there? Everytime I watch a fairplex race with the sharp turns I think that is what it must have been like with the flats at Pocono. I cannot stand Pocono especially with the afternoon cards. I do like Dover a lot and am happy they started their card. We'll see if the racing improves at Pocono with the slots. I'm sure it will, but it won't come close to how Dover/Harrington resurected with slots.

The fix was in no doubt! It's fun though, I was a regular for their Prime Rib Special. Now I'm @ the Carbondale site more and off to a Freeroll now,cu later. I'm looking for the 2/9 in the 13th @ Dover since Morand/Lare combo lost in the 8th..GL

Yes, the prime rib special on Tuesday. At least it was before this year. I've taken many of female there! I've been to Carbondale many times as well. Pretty small if you compare it to Hazleton and Allentown. Well good luck with your freeroll. Feel free to drop any harness hints/strategies you may have. I suck! I do like to play Kevin sizer though. I wonder if he'll ride in DE once Pocono closes for the year.

Right, since PD became Mohegan Sun @ PD they downwsized their special on Wednesday's. I heard the Slot Parlor is opening on the 14th and that makes sense since racing ends on the 11th. I like keying a horse in a triple @ 1 mile tracks using driver/trainer and closing (last 1/4) with 3 other under 8-1. Seems a longshot finds their way into the mix more so then I'd wish:firing:

peddler1 probably notices since he's a Northfield player how often the morning line favorites are in the winners circle @ Northfield with nice prices. My under 8-1's system seems to pay well @ Northfield especially when I'm not playing:shrug: So I guess your not alone when you say your not very lucky

No luck @ other Freeroll so now its on-line Freeroll

You where talking about Freehold. One of the drivers Jim Pantaleano as well as some others where kicked out of Northfield a couple of years ago for fixing races. At the time he was one of the top 5 drivers. If I am not mistaken I think with that cleaning of the house there was 4 drivers kicked out. One of the drivers was caught using a call a bet service to bet on other horses in the same race he was driving in.:nono: :nono:

I have been betting harness racing for over 20 years. I have done alot of research on it.I read and try to pick up information all of the time. I have hundreds of race forms that I go back and do research with. As well when I was younger I owned and trained standardbred horses. That tought me alot about class and condition races. I use that with the odds to do my betting. I will usually just bet to win. I myself stay away from exotic wagers. I have a winning system I can use with them but I have found with using the odds and betting win I have a better ROI%. With the system I use I do have alot of sucess with it. What I have found the key is 1) Know how much money you want to try to make. (Don't get Greedy) 2) Be selective on the races you bet. 3) If you have hit your money goal for the day walk away. ( At times very hard to do!!)

Hey does anyone bet CharlesTown Races in WV and Hawthorne in IL? Very bad/"fixed" races go there. I see them all day at Hawthorne.

I bet Hawthorne and Fairmont Park. The racing isn't great. As far as fixing goes, who knows? We're quick to jump to gun when our horse runs a piss poor race. I did post in the forum where a jockey was suspended at Hawthorne this year for not riding his mount out. The race replay is on the Hawthorne website. I forget the date and race, but it is listed in the post here, "speaking of fixed races." After watching it I don't know either way.
As far as fixing races goes nowadays what are the methods? I would think that juicing, milkshakes, disclosing an injury, or the driver/jockey holding back are the only ways. I could also see obvious bad riding decisions so the horse has a longer distance. Are the times to modern for a couple of drivers/jockeys block or obstruct another driver/jockey on purpose? Also the buzzer could be used. Anyone else have anything? In closing, I haven't worked closely with horses, trainers, etc. I'm only 30, but when I was younger I would think the fix is in for every race I lost. Now I just deal with it.

Well, I am sure there are many other ways that the races are fixed. Like you said, you have listed most of the ways the horse races are fixed. The only other ways I have ever heard of are using creams and taking shots. Unlike dogs, where there are multiple ways.
