Absolutely love getting the touchdown or so tonight as improving and confident Oakland will win this game outright. The Silver & Black have the better defense and on what could be a wet and windy night, Oakland will take the fight to this overrated and banged up Seattle team. Winners of two straight after picking off four passes in last week's win over defending champ Pittsburgh, Oakland will smack last year's league runner-up in the mouth from the opening kickoff tonight. Oakland is a rock solid play this evening and Art Shell's bunch will win this one outright.
Seattle is just 1-3 SU and 0-4 ATS since running back Shaun Alexander went out with a foot injury. Of course quarterback Matt Hasselbeck won't be in the lineup tonight and nor will receiver Bobby Engram. And of course, guard Steve Hutchinson, signed with Minnesota in the off-season. Those were Seattle's top four offensive players a year ago and this team is really lost without them. Yes, Seneca Wallace is a very athletic player under center. But he makes too many needless mistakes and tossed two picks last week against Kansas City. He'll toss a few more tonight against Oakland's top-ranked pass defense. Oakland has struggled at times defending the run (like against the vaunted running attack's of Denver and San Diego), but they did a solid job last week against Pittsburgh's Willie Paker (83 yards on 22 carries) and they'll find things easier tonight against a Seattle attack that has been nondescript with Maurice Morris (25 yards on 12 carries against KC) in place of Alexander. Seattle is ranked 26th in the league in rushing. And who for Seattle, which has given up 23 sacks this year, is going to block Derrick Burgess, who has five sacks in his last three games? Oakland has allowed 13 points or less in its last three games and will do again tonight.
OK, I'm not going to tell you that Oakland has a great offensive attack, but the Silver & Black won't have to do a lot tonight as the defense will lead the charge. Still, Randy Moss is due a big game on national TV and it helps that Jerry Porter is set to make an impact in his second game of the season. Seattle is ranked 28th in the league against the pass, and the team has been absolutely horrible versus the run in recent weeks. Last week, KC's Larry Johnson ran for 155 yards against Seattle, one week after the team was burned for 169 yards by Minnesota's Chester Taylor. LaMont Jordan, Justin Vargas and Zack Crockett, between the three of them, will find some running lanes tonight as Oakland is a decent 16th in the league in rushing offense. Seattle's defense, which gave up four touchdown drives of 74 or more yards last week, is not making big plays this year and this unit has been in a month-long malaise. In their last four games, Seattle has given up an average of 32 points and 380 yards per game.
Seattle has actually given up more points (177) than it's scored (149) this year as in reality, this team has been sub-par on both sides of the football. Oakland has covered three straight games overall and there is a renewed enthusiasm by the bay after such a horrid start. That nasty beginning to the season included a Week 1 embarrassing home loss to San Diego under the prime time national TV lights. This is a chance for Shell, Moss, Warren Sapp and the rest of this proud organization to make amends. They'll do so and they'll win this game outright!
