Not too excited about Pelosi as Speaker, but F*CK, could anything go any worse than it has in Iraq?

ANY change is welcome.

Not to worry. Bush will find his veto pen finally. And Senate won't do chit. Waxman is who the Reb fear. Wait till he starts hearings on all the corruption with Iraq war.

i'm glad that there will be some changes....it seems that a lot of the new dems are moderate in their thinking....i didn't care too much for santorum & i like casey if he is similar to his old man.....glad that lieberman is in again.....eventhough allen may squeak in it seems his presidential hopes are dead.....

the problem i have with this is the speculation of the democratic leadership....can't stand rangel or conyers...hastings was a judge in fla. who got into trouble for bribery..so much for getting rid of the corruption.....& i can't stand pelosi....

but the republican leadership was incompetent.....

it'll be interesting to see how this develops....

If the dems win MT and MO (which it appears they will) this recount in Virginia is going to be a war.

Although I'm still disappointed Kyl and his anti-online gambling ass didn't lose. God do I hate that guy.

I don't even mean content... I just mean the complete lack of posts and threads in general on a huge election night.

btw..i just heard that jd hayworth (my congressman) lost.....that's very surprising.

AR maybe many are just some what worn out over some of the battles last 3 years. Gas prices. Immigration. Health Care. The War. This election I think would have more cause for concern if Dem's got the Senate. Right now we have a government that will keep each side in check. And we needed that bad.

I was stunned. Admittedly voted for Mitchell but thought it was as much of a lost cause as my Pederson vote. So I went 1-2 on my big office votes (couldn't stand either Gov. noms so voted Libertarian).

Even more stunning is that Mitchell didn't just win... he won rather easily.

Don't look now, but Senate could very well fall to Dems too. Might come down to Virginia recount. Perhaps won't know for weeks.

BIG ups to South Dakota voters for striking down the abortion ban. Nice to see a very red state make the right choice. I hadn't followed polls on that one, but expected it to pass and set the stage for a SC fight.

I don't know how the district is drawn up, but I'm only 3ish miles down Rural from the Tempe/Scottsdale border. To be honest, I didn't even care which party won what house... I just wanted the damn ads to be done with!!

SD doesn't like government gettin in yer face. This is where the religious right has taken the GOP down a wrong path to many conservatives.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
Dems taking House seems mirror image of their loss of it in '94. Just hope they don't hold it for 12 years like Repubs and chairmen get used to their seats and lobbyists get real comfortable on who to suck up to. I like gridlock, and sides in that gridlock to change every 6 or 8 years. Way it was designed to work, not to get much work done!

Lotta these new Dems are gun-totin' folks who don't like abortion, and most of Dems leaders old big city liberals they don't exactly get along with. And lotta the moderate Repubs elected out. Pelosi can only get stuff done if she holds her caucus together, and/or reach out to other side. Doesn't look like that either be too easy.

All those stories media working on about voter fraud and machine irregularities they can throw away now, the election results a part of that decision. Diebold stole the election for the Democrats!

AZ passed prop 103, making English the state official language, by 3-1 margin. But don't expect any anti-immigration bills to come out of this new house, with these leaders. Tho they do agree with Bush on guest worker program, that might get passed.

I heard some pudits in Austin here point out how well Bush worked with TX Democratic legislature when he was Gov, and think this might say signal a bright future for him. It does not. Bush worked especially well with one Dem, Lt Gov Bullock. And that is almost all it takes. The Lt Gov here is very powerful, sets the agenda. Very unusual, someways more powerful than Gov.....Bullock was the last of old style TX hard-drinking womanizing crude politicos and got along super well with Bush. Pelosi is no Bullock, and her position has no where near the power.

Both Ike and Reagan worked well with Congress when new party got elected at end of their watches. Both retired with high popularity ratings. Clinton didn't try to work well with his new Congress and went over them, that worked, and he got re-elected. Bush has to take a longer view with war deciding his place in history, and the long-over due Congressional oversight now gonna happen won't make for good relations with Congress.

Rumsfeld will "voluntarily resign" in a few months.

I think that this is a huge mandate against the direction the country has been going, moreso than a run to democrats. This was a perfect storm of sorts that benefitted the dems, to be sure, but much of it was caused by many republicans deviating from what appeals to most of their supporters. At the end of the day, a good balance is good for the country (IMO), as all people are represented in some ways.

I think conservatives feel somewhat betrayed by their leaders - whether they say so out loud or not. I would hope that democrats can take measure of where the country headed when they lost power and make use of that in moving forward. However, considering what this administration and the conservative majority has done to use their position and try to paint the liberals as being weak and flip-floppy - I could see some tough days ahead for Republicans. In many ways, you sleep in the bed you make, and paybacks are a biyatch. If you think the American people are unhappy, how do you think the old time liberal legislators feel about the past few years?

Maybe Pelosi can stop the Zionist Holacaust on the Palestinians. If she can bet GW's nose out of Omert's shorts.
PS: There is a significant difference between anti - semitism and anti-zionism. Please don't ask.

Maybe so, but the mere use of the word "Zionist" tends to go hand in hand with being crazy. It's a buzzword for lunatics.
