Pretty much in keeping with what Horns' fans expecrienced last year, and we arent a heated rival:

______________________________________________________________________
Letter sent to Michigan Season Ticket holders & students last night via email:

Dear Fans,

We know that it can be uncomfortable being in an opposing team's environment, especially when the stakes are so high. We would like to offer a few suggestions in order to help you stay safe and have a positive experience this weekend:
*Try carpooling to the game; if possible, drive a car with non-Michigan license plates.
*Keep your Michigan gear to a minimum, or wait until you are inside the stadium to display it.
*Stay with a group.
*Know and obey the laws regarding alcohol use.
*If you are of legal age to drink, use alcohol in moderation.
*Stay low-key; don't draw unnecessary attention to yourself.
*If verbally harrassed by opposing fans, don't take the bait.
*Avoid High Street & Lane Avenue in Columbus .
If at any time you feel unsafe, you should call 9-1-1 for assistance. U-M campus police also will be available in Columbus to support our fans. You may call them with non-emergency concerns at (734) 216-9159.
We look forward to a tremendous game on Saturday. Let's help the Wolverines win with spirit and class. Go Blue!

In all seriousness I have watched college football in alot of places. There are not any ruder fans in America than OSU. I hope you guys on this board are different. LSU is second, but it isnt really close.

On the other end... would say Nebraska Cornhusker fans are generally the classiest.

Irish fans still talk about Columbus. I actually felt safer when the cops weren't around as the non-cops didn't look like they had guns.

. . .and then they get so quiet when they get in the stadium. very odd.

Nope, I totally agree. I was in Northwestern this past weekend for my first road game experience with my wife and a bunch of her friends (who go to A LOT of road games). When the game was out of hand in the middle of the 3rd quarter.......people N'Western fans were filing out, and my wife's friends were telling them better luck next year and other rude comments as they filed out. I sat there and shook my head......not that it was like she was making fun of their mother, or their race or anything like that, but just sit there, know you are a fan of a good football team and let people be. Why be an ass? I am one of the most competitive f'ers out there, and if I am provoked, I can become an asshole.....but I would never be an ass to someone who simply wears the gear of another team in our stadium.....unless it is totally playful.

Unfortunately, this weekend is likely to not be pretty. I think the reason is that Columbus doesnt have anything else, sportswise. I think Ohio State football is more important to Columbus than any other college football program in America. I think it is proven by the way we travel and takeover stadums like Northwestern.......When that is the case, you are going to have a lot of assholes who take it personal.

I have never had the opportunity to attend any Big10 games, or even Bowls w/ Big10 participants, but in the SEC I have always found UGA fans to be cool.

On the other side of it, I find Vol and Gotar fans to be super rude. At the 01' SEC Championship, Vol fans harassed us while we tailgated, on our way to the stadium, and suring the game. Fortunately, they were far more tame after they received a beating on the field.

I've often heard of LSU fans being rude, and some LSU posters on this site back that up. I, myself, have been verbally and physically threatened outside of Tiger Staidium by an extremely large and apparently uneducated man from Breaux Bridge. The man felt that I called him a homosexual. One of the guys who sits on my row, happened to know this lunatic, and was able to calm him down long enough to allow for my escape. I would imagine this man would be tough to deal w/ as an opposing fan, but overall I do not witness much abuse from the Tiger faithful.

Cie:

As a Vol fan that attended the LSU game this year, I saw no ill will towards any of your fans. Hell, we even stopped at a tent and partied for a while.:mj07:

Fans that I cannot stand are South Carolina fans. They are the whiniest fans that I have ever seen. Lived in SC for a few years and was there when they were 0-11. To them every game was decided by a blown call in the 1st quarter.:142smilie

Vol fans usually are not rude to anyone but Fulmer:142smilie

I've been to quite a few road venues, and while CBus is bad, it's much like other places in one aspect: If you look for trouble you will find it!! If you choose not to respond to the verbal harrassments outside of the stadium, then you'll be fine. If you fire back, you'll cause yourself problems. Personally, I think East Lansing is worse for UM than CBus. They have a serious inferiority complex up there, and it shows on gameday.

As far as the classiest fans I've come across on road trips, I would say Penn St 1st, ND 2nd and Alabama 3rd (Orange bowl). Biggest bandwagon jumping, arrogant, "know nothing about football" fan award goes to USC fans at the 2004 Rose Bowl. What a fricking joke that crew was.

C Wood,

haven't been to South Bend personally, but my parents went a few years ago and said that they have never met a nicer group of fans. Lived in Bama for a couple of years and came away more impressed with Auburn fans than Bama, but no biggy either way.

Gotta also say that I was pretty impressed with the following Cal had when they came to Knoxville this year. I don't think they knew what they were in for though

You should have seen the look on their faces when Tennessee put then backup QB Crompton in the game in the 3rd Qtr. up 35-3 to call off the dogs.:142smilie

Ohio State Police Officers use pepper spray to control fans after the 2002 matchup between the Wolverines and Buckeyes.

I make it to many Big10 road games every year, and as Cwood says, if you are looking for trouble as a visitor, its not hard to find it. If we are heading to an unfamiliar venue--and thats hard to do for us now as the only Big10 stadiums I haven't been to are East Lansing, Bloomington and Happy Valley--and I hope to go next year-- we try and find out where the students and the other rowdier people tailgate, and avoid those areas.
As an example, we parked on the private golf course across the street from the Big House this year. 40 bucks a car probably cuts down on the rowdiness, but other than some good-natured ribbing from the Michigan fans, it was very cool.
Never had any problems at Cbus, either, but I've heard some stories about those fans being a bit over the top.
Had a great time with the LSU fans when Iowa played them in the 2005 Capital One Bowl--very friendly and even had many of their fans interrup our celebrating the final play to say congrats on the win.
Agree 100% with the USC fans being the biggest bunch of no-nothing, arrogant losers I've ever had the misfortune of being around. The crowd of pretty-boy, rich kids and their parents that were at the 2003 Orange Bowl thought that their shiite didn't stink and that they were 'cool' because they were from S Cal and we were just hicks from the farm fields. Phuk them.

The USC folks at the Rose Bowl were pretty rude. The whining after the game was incredible. But it wasnt like you thought you were gonna get shot or have a bottle broken over your head. Just incessant whining and " we are still better" - not even a hint of congrats. Although there was a pretty hot chic at the in and out burger after the game who came up and gave props....

Had one of those pretty boy USC douches in front of me at the 2004 Rose Bowl. Dude is a complete tool, 20's white kid with a pinweel hat on sidewise, wife beater with saggy jeans below the ass, you get the picture. I should preface the below actions by saying it didn't help my state of mind when he was screaming "michigan effing sucks" and "suck my %$% Michigan fans" during the entire pregame. Anyhow, he has this giant USC foam finger that he keeps putting up in my line of site during plays in the 1st quarter. I asked him to please keep it down during plays, he ingores me. It happens again, I ask him again and dude turns around and tells me to "eff off, you're just being pissy because USC is winning". It happens for a third time and I remove it from his hand, walk out of the gate and stuff it in a trash bin. When I get back to my seat he has this blank stare on this face and I tell him where he can find his foam finger if he's looking for it after the game. Dude acts like he wants to say something, but then turns around and sits down like the little bitch that he is. Needless to say he was not a problem the rest of the game. :mj07:

He wasnt with his parents was he?

Sounds like the same guy in front of me at the Rose Bowl. Those seats are so damn little he kept sitting on the seat back leaning back and into my wife's face. Asked him about 3 times to stop and he ignored. USC goes up 7-0 and he about sits on her in his glee. When I shove him off of her he has the nerve to ask me what my problem is, before he quickly backed down.

I figure he gets the hint and he doesnt even cheer the rest of the game except to turn around and make a worthless cocky comment when USC goes up 12 late. Of course, he walks out after the Vince TD not saying a word and still 19 seconds on the clock, and puts his blue sweatshirt over his USC gear as if in shame.

Ill admit it that Badger fans are pretty rude. The main problem is they start drinking at 6 in the morning on game day and by game time they are completly wasted. All they do is swear at you and make fun of you the whole game. While i am a huge badger fan i defintly dont agree with all the things that other badger fans(mostly students) do. Havent been to any other big 10 stadium but might go down to the bowl game this year in Orlando. Most likeyl going to play LSU or Arkansas. any word on those fans

LOL, probably the same guy.

What bugged me the most about the USC fans is you know that 95% of them couldn't give a rat's ass about USC or football until 2002. Now, they all are huge college football fans. Right.

You two know exactly what I'm talking about with those lame USC fans.
USC was throughly kicking Iowa's a#% in that game, yet many of them still felt the need to rub it in our faces. You'd think with them playing in such a lame conference and winning all the time, they'd know how to act, but I guess not.
