Hi Guys

I could really use some help here. I need to find health insurance for one of my parents. He is currently unemployed but does not qualify for Medicare yet (60 years old). He currently has United Health Care however they just changed his plan and he no longer has perscription coverage. He also has a slight diabetic condition. Need to find him health coverage that includes perscription coverage. I am lost when it comes to this stuff. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Each state is different

Each state is different

in how they handle uninsurables.... (someone with Diabetes is considered uninsurable in the Individual Medical Health Market)...

MI has BCBS as the "insurer of last resort" - which means BCBS must take the individual uninsurables...

Not every state has an insurer of last resort... the state you are looking in is important to know....Some states use High Risk pools, some have what are called HIPAA plans (which may not apply in this situation)

Boys, I am in Indiana, but we are licensed in every State.

Mags is right on with the high risk pool. You however (at least in Indiana) have to apply and be denied by I think 3 carriers before going into said pool.

Between auto, home, life and health I have about 100 carriers and we are licensed in all 48 of the lower states!

Can't your son just pick up COBRA if he was previosly on your plan. If he was, I assume the non student term date is 19 years.

He can get COBRA but its $400 per month. That seems outrageous for someone his age with no health issues.
