read an article about atmosphere in night clubs. says some comedians have become very bitter and angry. i saw a chris rock show on hbo a few years back and it completely turned me off to him. i wonder if richards got caught up in the moment and thought it might be edgey and cute. i listened to part of it and it was very hateful. i think the "n" word has so much hate tied to it, that it's tough for anyone not african-american to pass it off. if he ever had a chance to be successful after seinfeld, i think he blew it.
dumbass.

On the lake. Setting hooks!
Comic Paul Rodriguez, who was at the club, and said he thought Richards' remarks crossed the line.

"Once the word comes out of your mouth and you don't happen to be African-American, then you have a whole lot of explaining," he said.

This is what I have a major problem with. Somebody explain this double standard chit to me.

'Seinfeld' Star Apologizes For Racial Slur

NEW YORK, Nov. 20, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(CBS) Michael Richards, who played Jerry Seinfeld's eccentric neighbor Kramer on the sitcom "Seinfeld," publicly apologized for racist comments he made during a stand-up routine.

Appearing on "Late Night With David Letterman" Monday, the actor spoke live via satellite from Television City, Calif., and fielded questions from Letterman, while in-studio guest Seinfeld looked on.

"For me to be at a comedy club and flip out and say this crap?" said Richards. "I'm deeply, deeply sorry."

It's all about the "-ah" vs the "-er". If white people would just say "nig-gah" then I think they could get away with it.

Also, saying to someone's face "50 years ago, we had you upside down with a fork in your ass" is not going to go over well regardless of how many "-ers" are involved.

I think Kramer needs to watch more Def Comedy Jam so he can learn that black audiences interact more with the performer and poke fun at them without any of meant to be insulting. In fact, he could have come back at them with some line about "this isn't def comedy jam, settle down" and they probably would have laughed.

I totally agree with Paul Rodriguez that nothing should be censored. Sensitivity shouldn't be a part of comedy. If they suck and are stupid then their careers will fall apart - just like Kramer.

I don't think it was a very good idea, thats for sure but, Martin Lawrence, Jamie Foxx, Chris Rock, All the Wayans brothers, Bill Bellamy, and damn near every black comedian working today makes fun of white people and their mannerisms. Many going so far as to make fun of their courage, integrity, intelligence and many other things. I, for one, am sick of it and do not listen to their interviews, watch their shows or support any of them in any way. It is absolutely a double standard and simply put, reverse racism, which is absolutely rampant in this day and age. I am not saying there isn't any bigotry, or racism in the United States towards African-Americans because there is, but how far do we crackers as a race have to take our apologies for what happened over two hundred years ago. How many steps do we have to take as a non participant in slavery? It just seems, and I am not considering the Michael Richards thing here, that we are constantly trying to "make it up" to everyone. Hell I don't even know a black guy that is actually from Africa, yet we are told that African-American is the proper term. I don't know a black man that has any relatives that were enslaved that they actually know about. I am sure they are out there but I don't know any, and I have a damn lot of black friends. The Egyptians or Germans aren't apologizing to the Jews and giving reparations. The Romans aren't taking jabs from the serfs and christians they enslaved. The problem is that many citizens feel they are owed something. For what I ask you? The Irish that immigrated to this country where made to suffer through indentured servitude and I am not asking for any money form the government, or for special programs to educate my children. It is a deep issue with many facets and a very delicate issue at that. I would much prefer that everyone just accept their own lot in life and try to be a little bit better to their neighbors. I personally have very few prejudices, most are trivial............old people driving and such..................but none are race related. Anyone can do it. I do however get offended by the constant badgering of the Anglo Saxons duriing a comedy show. Its not funny....................ever.

This wasn't a 'bit', or a 'joke', or anything like that.

He called specific people in the audience n*iggers, over and over again because they were apparently talking during his set.

Not the same thing. Sorry.

Not meant towards any particular poster, just the general sentiment.

Yup, I agree......totally different that "playing around" there was true hate in his comments. I am a big believer that there is a lot of overreaction on racism that really isnt there in some situations.....but it is isolated incidents like this that really make racism prevalent......

the two specific people in the audience yelled out ,

" your not funny !"

Doesnt excuse what Kramer said, but I dont think if Kramer went to these peoples jobs and critized them in front of a crowd , he would probably get his ass kicked.

Kramer doesnt give a crap , the guy is a millionaire ten times over and just bored.

Kosar,
Couldn't agree more. He certainly was angry and reacting with hatred in his words. I am in no way defending his actions. I never thought he was funny, outside of Seinfeld of course, and he probably isn't funny during his stand up routine. I don't necessarily condone or dismiss the heckling. There is a fine line between good natured fun and disruptive behavior. I am curious as to who those men were there to see? It certainly wasn't Michael Richards. I would hazard to guess that they had very little patience for him. Just my two cents.

Scott he could have handled it a lot different than what he did. If he trully was a gifted comic he would have had tons of rebuttals. That was totally overboard. The question now is will he get the same type of treatment Mel Gibson got for insulting jewish people? I doubt it. I watch def comedy jam all the time and i never saw anything like this.

UT did you actually see this? I mean he ws screaming this like he was pissed and not joking. I know what you are talking about but this was a bit to much. Its like a black calling a guy leaving a white POS and continuing it like Krammer was. He should have had material for something like this. Just my opinion

the hypocrisy is ludicrous at best. you can't say it, but i can = horse $hit. get over it. racism exists on both sides. if you don't like the word than don't use it, but the double standard has to go.
