Exploit:Win32/Wmfap

Everytime I run Windows Defender I clear this off my system but it keeps coming back. I tried searching but I havent found a solution. Anyone know how to get rid of this thing?

Thanks

i can't say this enough as it will save headaches later on.

everyone should have the following on their cpu:

spybot
ad-aware
ccleaner
clean up (crap cleaner)
ewido
avg 7.5 anti virus/adware scanner
hijack this
atf cleaner
spywareblaster
advanced windows cleaner
and a firewall (zone labs)

Doc, I am going to disagree with you on this one. If you load all that stuff down, your computer is almost going to be too slow to download anything. Instead of crusing websites looking for stuff, check out bitorrent, where you can find much better quality of stuff than on the web.

I agree the above are all good tools, but I also think it would really slow down the computer. Funny how you don't mention Windows Defender

Just My opinion and I deal with this stuff every day in a corporate enviroment

correct it would slow things down, that is why I don't have them startup when my cpu turns on. They are however on my desktop for quick and easy access (no pun intended).

you may not have them all listed in startup, but they almost all appear to run in startup or in the background.

Keep up the good work though Doc

let me clear things up as there seems to be a misunderstanding.

click on start, click on run, type in misconfig, click on startup, any boxes that are checked start up when your cpu is turned on. If all of those boxes are checked, an individuals cpu is going to startup really slow.

I have all those programs on my laptop and it will bootup in about 25-28 seconds. Only two programs are checked during startup, my firewall and anti virus.

In regards to windows defender, it does not perform a wide scan. Is it a decent program? yes
is it goof to have onones cpu? sure,
should i rely on that alone? no.

the best program out there is ewido hands down.

i hope this helps others out there who are less knowledgeable about this topic as they may wonder why their cpu is slow during startup, not directed at you bsu.

Wow!! Definite overkill on the suggestions in this post!! Not one item is necessary. it's like you're doubling and quadrupling the effects here!! As long as you keep them up to date yah don't need multiples of each type!!

Yah can protect your machine without using any of those easily. Of course this means you have to learn to pay attention and understand what you are doing and what everything is doing on your computer. Yah have to learn how spyware functions and gets on your machine in the first place, the same with viruses. Yah have to learn how installs work and how to get around in, and learn how to read and edit the registry. Plus a lot more I'm not going to get into because of the technical stuff.

The other shoe is that that this is far more than most users are capable of or willing to do.

firewall?? absolutely. The one that comes built into Windows XP is fine if yah have a router between you and your cable/dsl modem, that has one also!!

I'd STRONGLY recommend not using HijackThis if yah don't know what you're doing.

ewido has been displaying wretched problems with the fix being total clean up of systems!!

Ad-Aware and Spybot continue to be THE best defenders, they work together, what one misses the other doesn't, and the single, most important task continues to be UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!

ewido is just an anti-spyware program, if you are ~that~ paranoid, yah need anti-virus. The *best* program for CPU (PC) protection is a Firewall, one comes built-in with Windows XP SP2.
