NCAA YTD: 39-37 (-1.54*)

NFL YTD: 13-24 (-12.40*)

Hard to ignore some simple facts :

(1) I have not been as diligent in my capping this year - often as late as Thursday before I started breaking down the college games, and a few times as late as Saturday before I even knew from memory what the NFL matchups were. Not like me at all. But, other stuff is more important, that's for sure, but then again it's not like I didn't spend many hours every week watching, researching and capping the games in about the same way while looking for the same angles, but more of a case of this year settling on picks close to game time, rather than having a good idea on my strongest plays for days and weighing final choices in the final hours. The results have not been what I hoped for . . . And fewer write-ups (which I enjoy), because of time constraints, and just as significantly, WTF good could I possibly contribute.

(2) The only other time I took a 10-14 day vacation during football season was during the 2004-2005 Bowl season, and it hurt my focus and selections then (5-8), and commitments in the week prior and subsequent to a 12 day vacation in October-November this year really had me operating from incomplete/inadequate information vis-a-vis my custom for almost a month, and it just exacerbated the direction I was headed rather than pulling me out of it. But my "bankroll" from 4 years ago is still very healthy, it's just my self-belief and some frustration that are gnawing away at me right now.

(3) As noted in a prior "Runaway Train" post on my NFL season:
- - It could always be worse . . . anatomy of a streak means being gun shy at exactly the wrong time - it's killing me even more than the wrong sides, which have been worse than the bad beats, which . . . . 2006 sucks . . . now it's extra juice to boot . . . endeavor to persevere . . . no time like the present . . .
Last week another case in point. I really liked Indianapolis, Minnesota, Baltimore and Cincinnati, but being gun shy about what I was seeing, and sticking with "money management" to contain exposure, my "Too Few" thread went with just Indy and Viqueens (and the backdoor I was worried about from Arizona's strengths and Minnesota's weakness never would have been there but for a goal line fumble by Chester Taylor, making two straight bad beats on Minnesota, so maybe 2-0, 3-0, 4-0 or 3-1 whimpers in at 1-1, again, see where I'm at . . .). The week before, 0-2 in the early games meant "money management" and taking only one late game (Dallas over Indy) in the late games, and passing on San Francisco over Seattle. Just that kind of a season.

Again this week, no capping to speak of until late Thursday night . . . :wall:

San Jose State(-4')(-105) over Fresno State (1*)
- - The Spartans and I have been waiting all year on this game. It was obvious weeks ago that a juicy line was not gonna be there, but nothing to date on the field from my boys or the bad guys has me dissuaded in the least. The better team will win this BIG game, and I hope I know which team that is and that the margin is not a kick in the teeth.

Navy(-19') over Army (1*)

- - Navy arrives in December with as much heart and too much power for this one to stay in order as a contest.

Now the tough ones, waiting on what I'm not quite sure.
