Last night the wife and I went to the local bar where we watch the packer games at. We started talking about strip cards and squares for the superbowl. Wife used to run a $100 per line strip card for the superbowl. It always payed $500 half and $500 total. She also ran a 100 square $100 per that covered the whole packer season including final playoffs and the Superbowl.( With her new position at work she cant do it anymore) I started telling the bartender about a 100 square pool that cost $1000 per square that I had heard of but could never find out where it was at. He told me it was true and told me the name of the place that has it. Here is the deal with it...the bar shuts down on superbowl sunday and everyone that has bought a sqaure gets all the steak and lobster they want. Plus everything and anything you want to drink. The game is shown on a brand new big screen tv and they draw for a winner for it. All this comes out of the pool. The cost is usually a little less than 10k. So the payouts are around 22.5k per quarter. There is a waiting list a mile long to get on it. The only way someone gets on it now is if someone dies or moves out of town. This has been running for years. Would love to try it but I know my numbers would be either 2-2 or 5-5.

Any one ever been on a pool like this with that big of a payout?

I'm in a $500 per square pool. You can win $100 per quarter on every Monday night football game to help pay off your square. The big payout is $20,000 for the final score of Superbowl...

I had to dust the cobwebs off on this one, but my brother in law was in a pool like this for the NCAA championships.

It was in Staten Island. I think he paid 1 grand for his entry.

The reason why I remember is because he had a great run, and in the final game he had UCONN. If UCONN won the championship and the total fell on UConn 153, he would split the prize with 1 other person. His take would have been about 40k if I'm remember correctly.

In any case, the total was sitting on 153 with only a few seconds left when there was a useless foul. That foul pretty much cost him 40k. I can't remember exactly what it was, but he broke something pretty large in my sister's house.

When I see him for the holidays next week I'll have to get more accurate details. Of course, he might start crying or break something if I bring back the memory.

Chicago board of trade 10,000 a square, and winner takes all, and two security guards to make sure nothing goes wrong. Been going on for a long time.

Got in a $100 square game much like the $1000 listed here. Free food and booze, bar closed, money came out of the pot.
With the bonuses paid out on wall st these days a $10,000 pot is not surprising. Wonder if they would declare it as income if they won? If not somebody might turn them in for a little piece of the pie. I couldn't imagine buying a square that size if I had to report it.

Local pub does a $300/block for the SB, to which I donate yearly. Payout 10K for half, 19K for final, and he keeps 1k to put out food/drink for all to come watch on the big screen. He does the same for the NCAA Championship game too. Last year I had 8-8 for the SB.

My best buddy owned a bar here in Nashville for years and we had one that was $100 per square. This got you into a square holder only party that you got to bring a significant other and he supplied all you can eat Filet mignon, 10 count boiled shrimp, crab legs, and all the fixings plus 10 free drinks per couple. We still paid out 1k per quarter and 2k final score. The best part was being a private party, we locked the front door and we had a black jack table, a roulette table and a craps table. Very large time had by all!!

There is another place here in town that has a $220 per square, which has a private drawing party with all the BBQ and drinks provided. They pay $800 for every score and $200 for the reverse side. That night whoever gets the 0-0, automatically collects $1000 on the spot. Pretty cool that you can get your money back just on the reverse flop and if you hit any number you are in the positive. Final score rakes the remainder of the money. Waiting list for this one too.
