Anybody else do this gift taking exchange at their office?

It involves everyone bringing a gift in. Pooling all the gifts. Drawing numbers, to see who gets to pick first. Picking last has the best advantage because you are also allowed to take a gift away from someone who has already picked.

I had never heard of it until last tyear when they swtiched over from "Secret Santa"

It REALLY bothers me. Seems to go against the spirit of Christmas.

My wife's family does this, and it always results in some consternation and problems between some. This works well if it is gag gifts, otherwise, it's a recipe for problems.

We do it a work, 3 steals then a item can not be stolen again. $10 limit for a xmas or craft item. Most spend more, its a lot of fun. Of course, its me and about 15 girls. turk

I decided to pass on it. I watched them play the game this morning, and honestly they seemed like animals (to me). No warm feeling for "giving" someone something, at all.

Totally the opposite attitude I would want to promote around Christmas.

Just somewhat emphasizes the worst qualities in humans. Taking, stealing, greed (even if it is just a silly game.... that stuff seeps into your subconscious in my opinion.)

That being said, I am probably taking it too seriously. Just bugs me.

Not at all ImFeklhr, i am thinking the same as you do about this. Last year i was "force" to play that silly game and it really annoys me. Not because i got my gift stolen , in fact i was at the end of the draw, but because it is NOT in the spirit of Chritmas :nono: Silly and stupid game if you ask me...

Anyone watch the episode of The Office when they did this and everybody bought lame gifts and Michael brought an Ipod and he ended up with a hand made kitchen glove and he kept complaining of what a lame gift it was and made the girl that brought it cry :mj07:

Yeah I ended up coming across that "The Office" episode online, as I researched this obsession of mine, today. :s1:

Alas, I feel better, having vented and found some empathy. :mj05:

Thanks.
