Have waited and watched this number drop. Would have played it at 7, putting it in now at 4.
Without being too long winded, I like this game for the following reasons.
First Troy.
On 11/25 they were 3 minutes from losing to middle tenn state and probably having only one game left in their season ( at winless fla intl). down 14 they get a td, get an onsides kick, and get another td. Win 21-20 over midd tenn. St.
The following week they go into a pathetic fla intl and get the w, winning 26-13, to win the sunbelt and get into this bowl. Winning 6 of their last 7.
This is their second bowl appearance ever, second in three years. Two years ago they upset Missouri 24-14 in their first ever bowl appearance.
Rice.
They?ve won 6 straight. 4 of those 6 by 4 points or less.
Their one common opponent ? florida st.
Troy lost on 9/9 @ fsu 24-17
Rice lost on 9/23 @ fsu 55-7.
Cliffs notes version ? but above may point some people to troy?
Here?s the fsu schedule surrounding the above games:
Sep 4 @Miami (Fla.)
Won 13-10
Sep 9 Troy
Won 24-17
Sep 16 Clemson
Lost 20-27
Sep 23 Rice
Won 55-7
Fsu wins a tough season opener @ Miami, comes home and has a flat game against troy, with the look ahead the following week against clemson ? fumbling the ball 7 times, losing possession 3 of those 7. squeaking out a W.
Fsu gets beat at home the following week by Clemson. After the loss to Clemson, no focus lost on rice ? playing well and smacking them 55-7.
Just a tough spot for rice, and a great spot for troy.
Throw the common opponent out, handicap these two teams and Rice minus 7 makes more sense to me.
Better team, better conference and I?m only laying 4? Love it.
Like Rice?s first year coach as well, Todd Graham. think he has these kids ready to play. he has bowl experience as an asst at wvu and Tulsa, so not worried about that.
This is also Rice?s first bowl game in 45 years.
May or may not write some more on this before gametime, depending on time.
Love it, love it, love it.
Good luck to all
