blitz....

i once read an article about 25 years ago by an economist who basically said.....

people should rent (lease) items that depreciate & buy things that appreciate....

and since then all i have done is lease my cars....

also with some leases the dealer's will do free maintenance on the car during the term of the lease.

good luck with whatever you decide.

Leased my pickup for 3 yeaers as it was my first pickup and did not know if I would like having a pickup. Its been great--only have put 2,000 ayear on it. In my dealing made them throw in free tire rotation and oil changes. Also had them put a liner in the back , tint windows and side step bars. I probably will buy it in Aug as my lease runs out as the price is only 11,500--only will have 10,000 on it and can't find a used pickup in good shape with under 10,000 miles for that price most of them out this way are prices around 16,000--GL

If you do lease.....SHOP..........I only lease and I play one dealership against another, play hardball with these guys.......NO LOYALTY. Try for the free service and as close to zero down as possible, also if you have good credit you can get them to waive the security deposit.............good luck.

Never Leased & never was interested. This would be for my wife, she does not put many miles on her car & I know that is key to a Lease...

Any input appreciated...

Ric Edelman discusses this subject in his book The Truth About Money. It's a pretty short chapter but he discusses leasing vs buying from a couple different angles.

Pros & Cons Leasing

Pros & Cons Leasing

I've been leasing for years. I would suggest you put as little down as possible, increase the milage limit if you drive around 15K a year, and research past history of the usual value of the vehicle at time of turn in/ purchase. Also check out what are the ramifications of ending your lease early.

Years ago I sold and leased cars and trucks. Like anything it can be the best deal or the worst if you don't understand it. Google : lease a car, and read up. THE KEY TO A GREAT LEASE : look at higher end cars, they have higher residual values. The higher the residual, the lower the payment. Don't put any money down. Negotiate a purchase price, don't negotiate payments, Then have your your bank, lease you the car. Unless you know how to calculate a lease and know all the vocabulary and understand stand it, I would not lease from a dealer. Treat the deal like you are buying the car for cash. Get the best price & have someone you trust at the financial institution of your choice lease you the car. Dealers may have a better deal than your bank, so compare. To many people think they are getting a great deal because they are comparing the lease payment to a buy payment, don't do that. If you are looking at two cars and they both sticker for $30,000. The one with the higher residual factor should be your choise.
