Hey there. Will be vacationing 10 walking minutes away from the resort town of Puerto Aventuras in 3 weeks, and wondering if anyone has been to/stayed in that area? I have some good ideas already, but could always use any experienced input. Going with the wife, staying at what sounds like a nice all-inclusive resort, so will spend a lot of time there eating their food and drinking their booze, of course. We currently have one day trip planned on a catamaran, but nothing else yet. Considering a half-day fishing trip, and would consider other cool things if anyone has any ideas. Thanks.

For reference, the area is an hour drive or so SW down the coast from Cancun (we will be hurrying to the resort to get the best possible room) and just across from Cozumel island. We have been to Cozumel twice, and probably will skip that area this year.

We've never been on the mainland area there, no. We are staying very close to Puerto Aventuras, and it sounds really nice. We have spent two different days in Cozumel on cruises before and had a good time there. But never on the mainland there, in the Rivera area. We will be seeing one of the ruins on our already-booked day excursion. We'll spend 5 hours sailing on a World Cup class catamaran, snorkel, and 2.5 hours on the ruins part of the day. A full day, but I love those catamaran rum run snokel sails.

If you have any suggestions from your personal trips, I'd love to hear about it. We are staying at the Catalonia Riviera Maya resort, less than 10 minutes from Puerto Aventuras.

The cat trip is fun we did one last year to Isla Mujeres. Went on a trip to Chichen Itza, would recommend that but it is a long day and your already going to some ruins. Have you every gone swimming with the dolphins? Xel-Ha has a nice 1/2 day trip and it was fun. If you like to shop and bargain with locals the cab ride to 5th ave in Playa del Carmen is a lot of fun. We do it several times when we go. Once you visit the area I think you will like it. We were actually booked for Puerto Aventuras this year but had to cancel.

Actually go right into the town of Puerto aventuras you can see dolphins and manatees there, very safe town sort of a gated community. Don't miss Gringo Dave's for a beer or lunch. We usually do just 2 side trips and the rest of the time is on the beach with a cold one.

Go over and eat at Cafe International, ask for the owners Gary and Gail Adams...tell them ol' Bryon Thomas from Kansas City sent you down.
