I'm on a lunch break from court. I went in this morning thinking I'd sit around for a few hours and be sent home.

BUT, it looks like I am going to be a juror in a case. :grouphug: I'm not sure to be annoyed or fascinated.

Since I "can't talk about the case" yet, I was wondering if anyone had any interesting experiences serving on a jury or weaseling out of it?

So many people used excuses by the time it got to my turn, I didn't have to nerve to make something up, so they had no reason to let me go home. :nono: :nono:

One thing I can say. Beantownjim would find the case to be open and shut. :padlock: :padlock:

During juror selection in local district court, one of the attorneys was asking people in the selection group (meth lab case) want bumper stickers they had on their cars. One lady about 45 years old did not want to answer, the judge told her she had to answer. She said my bumper sticker reads "my other car is a piece of shit also".

The judge all most fell out of this chair in laughter. Funniest thing I have ever seen.

Above the Clouds....
I sat in court several years back waiting to get picked so I could "weasel" out. Well I was the last person in the last group to be picked. A wasted day. Turned out the prosecruting lawyer's aunt was also my wife's aunt. He didn't know me ,I didn't know him but when asked if I would lean toward the defence I said Hell Yeah. Your dismissed.

Got called about 15 years ago for Jury Duty. Reported to the courthouse, was herded into an empty courtroom with a bunch of other people. I took a seat in the jury box just to say I had. The prosecution walked in and asked the whole group of us to please raise your hand if you had ever been convicted of a DUI as the case was a DUI. My hand along with a few others went up and we were promptly sent home.
Only time I've been called, but my brother spent 6.5 weeks on a Federal jury hearing a case against a drug dealer. After it was over, he said that within the first 20 minutes of the prosecution's case they had presented enough evidence to prove without a shadow of a doubt that the guy was guilty. Reason the trial took so long is because they had 6 weeks worth of evidence to present to the jury. The thing that sucked for him was that he wasn't allowed to talk to anyone about the trial, but he did get to spend his nights at home rather than being sequestered in a hotel room.
The defense took 2 days to try and prove the guy was framed.
The defendent got 25 years.

Just got home... I am in.

The jury selection process is by far the most interesting part of the whole ordeal to me (I did this once before about 5 years ago).

Of the 12 people initially seated as jurors, only 2 remained after challenges from each side. An aditional 10 or so people replaced them and were also lenghtly interviewed and dismissed.

The funniest were ones that were basically dismissed cause they were morons or couldn't speak English very well. Of course a few people were "smart" enough to pick up cues as to what would get them dismissed, based on the subject of the case. Overall though, I was impressed by the honesty that people expressed themselves.

I really enjoy the experience, since my main employer pays me for up to two weeks of jury service. Otherwise I would be fuming.

Of course getting to the court at 8:30 is a challenge for me, as I usually pass out drunk around 3 or 4am :scared :scared

Look for me on Court TV the rest of the week :wall:

i actually kind of liked going because it got me away from work for a few days. When i went tho i wasn't to keen on staying so i read the paper religiously before i had to go. Here it was a rape trial and this kid spazzed out about two days before the trial. I read about it. Now me being a single man the defense wanted me badly and question me with a smile on his face and his last question to me was do i know any thing about the case? I started spitting out what the guy did the previous day and he got furious LMFAO. Cut me off right in the middle and they sent me packing. She was a nice little piece of ass to the poor girl. this kid basically by his expression looked guilty as hell. Sitting there like a dick sloutched down like a smartass. He was found guilty in two days. the part that was really disturbing to me was just listening to people talk before being picked. I havent committed a crime since. No way im gonna let a few strangers judge my fate. Especially some who have the IQ of an easter egg.

Yes, me and her. The guy went back in, out 2 years later and then gun'd down by the police. Pointed at shotgun at a couple of cops during a meth house raid in OK.
