just received an e-mail from an acquaintance who got back from vegas & he told me about the restaurant on top of the paris hotel & how great the food & scenery was....

since i was at that restaurant a few years ago & since i'll be in vegas in a few weeks & like to go to restaurants i haven't been to.... i thought i would start this thread & ask for any recommendations....

other people have suggested that i try the buffets at the paris & wynn hotels...which is on my list....

any other recommendations ?

al, i'm a huge fan of rum jungle (mandalay bay). it was recommended to me for my first vegas trip in 2000, and i've been back every time i've been in vegas. i always tell whoever i'm going with... 'we need to eat at rum jungle'. and you have to get the 'fire pit'. it starts with a cool salad and appetizer (some kind of rice and beans). then, one by one, comes the 10 different entrees served rodizio (sp?) style. each one is brought to the table on a skewer, and you'll get approximately 5 - 6 bites of each. there is a huge variety... beef, fish, chicken, sausage, etc. just incredible. and it is all you can eat, so if you are actually still hungry, you can get more of whichever ones you liked.
my buddies last year were kinda skeptical, so they all just ordered regular entrees. they loved everything they got, but at least one of them swears he's getting the fire pit this year.
also, some time around 10:00, it turns into a club, complete with dancing girls in cages suspended above the floor and a trapeze girl swinging around. if you like that kind of thing. :)
oh, and it's not cheap, but it's not $150/person either. i usually end up spending roughly $75/person, including a drink or two.

no problem. in case you couldn't tell, i love the place, and tell everybody going to vegas to eat there. it's an experience.

you can always eat earlier and leave before 10:00. one thing... not sure what you like, but there is a carribean beat playing constantly. so we're not talking a quiet dinner experience.

if you do go, make sure you order the 'cubano' for dessert. it's as much a work of art as it is food.

bender, you will not regret it. the time all depends on what you're looking for. if you want to stick around and enjoy the club, then 9:00 is pretty good. you'll probably finish eating around the time they are converting to a nightclub. one nice thing about that is you avoid the cover charge and the dress code. call me crazy, but i generally wear shorts in vegas. one time, we were there for dinner but it was a club when we were leaving. we thought about maybe coming back later, but the guy at the door told us he wouln't be able to let us back in because we were wearing shorts.
anyways... i always make a reservation. but the times i was there during the week, it probably wasn't necessary. friday or saturday? i'd certainly recommend a resevation.

I like Michael Mina at the Bellagio. Food is superb, but expect to pay at least $300 for a couple. My wife and I went last year - great food.

Geez 300? Did you get to take the waitress home with you?

I always enjoyed the buffet at Belagio's but it has been a few years since I have been there.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
AR---I'll join you for dinner sometime!

AR---I'll join you for dinner sometime!

I ate at the Paris buffett last month. It's improved just a bit over the years. I particularily like those heavy sauces that they do so well.

I haven't tried Wynn, or the newly redone Mirage buffet that folks rave about. The Rio buffet is among the best for live cooking action.

The best place I ever ate at in Las Vegas is Bouchon.

Foodies just love Lotus of Siam, a Thai restaurant down Sahara Blvd a bit from the Hilton. It is very good!

Below is a picture of my first servings at the Paris Casino's "Le Village Buffet".

On the plate is beef bourguignon, roast duck, sole dieppoise, cajun sausage, eel sushi, roast marinated lamb chunks, smoked salmon, steamed clams, and a dolmata.

in the bowl is excellent seafood bouillabaisse. On desert plate was fine chocolate piece, imported cheeses and pitted kalamata olives.

Only dissapointments were the duck, a bit hard and dry, and the velout? sauce on the sole too heavy---I had to scrape some off to taste the fish.

The lunch buffet here is $17.99, dinner $24.99. But Paris' buffet is one of the few that doesn't close between lunch and dinner. One is then able to get seated at end of lunch (3:30 weekdays) and they'll have the dinner stuff out a few minutes later---dinner at the lunch price. After turning in my $10 off coupon, the tariff for this meal was cheap! About the only difference between lunch and dinner offering is prime rib and the crab you see in picture.

My dad told me he was watching food detectives on foodnetwork and they were going to all the regulars in las vegas to ask for the best breakfast/lunch dinner treats etc.

well the best dinner they found was recomended by a couple of cops that say they eat at the resturant on top of binions and they say to get the Chicken Fried Lobster

My dad went there and tried it and hasnt stopped raving about it. Said it was the best lobster he has ever had. Said they pound a huge tail pretty thin and then fry it and serve it with butter and another sauce he said was good. Said the dish covered the whole plate and it was the best 50 bucks hes spent on a meal in some time.

I personally havent tried it but you can bet i will be going to binions next trip out to vegas!

Vegas Baby !!
This is gonna sound silly, but if you like BBQ, the ELLIS ISLAND has an awesome BBQ night.

Ribs and chicken, with monster proportions. Local joint, so it ain't no $300 P/P. Less than a twenty spot for the works !!!

Dela-where?
My top two from Sept:
Nine at the Palm
Fix at the Bellagio

Both were trendy with superb food. Semi expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Enjoy wherever you choose!!
