I have switched back and forth between AT&T and Comcast, and I ended up with two DSL modems from AT&T. My question is, is it not possible to have both modems running at the same time?

I have my computer downstairs and my PS3 upstairs, and I wanted to use the modems in both places, but when I go to setup the 2nd modem upstairs, the other modem doesn't work. I can use wireless on the PS3, but I can get a faster connection with it being wired.

Anyone know if it's possible to use both modems at the same time?

They use the mac id # of the modem to let you connect. Unless you pay for two modems they will not let you use two. Get a router and hook it up to the modem that works and then you can connect as many computers or PS3 as you want.

Yah can't. Not unless you have two different phone lines. Your line which is terminates at the other end is bound to a PVC with a specific circuit ID.
Besides you'll most likely violate the ToS with AT&T if you attempt multiple connections.
