I think most people are missing the point, or I only heard it mentioned once. The government didn't ban online gambling, they banned online gambling they didn't have a piece of.
You can still bet the ponies online - if you live in the right state.
State lotteries are available online.
Keno is available online in some states.
And of course the government says its ok to still:
Go to slot parlors in some states that dont have casino gambling.
Legal casino gambling at casinos or Indian casinos.
Multiistate lottery tickets
Scratch tickets
Then we have:
Online poker
Online sports betting
What do these have in common? The feds and local governments have their meathooks in the first group - taking payola in the form of tax incentives, tax base or straight pay in the form of percentage. Huh, what a coincidence that these forms of online gaming are completely legal.
The other group, the government doesnt get sh1t from. What a shock that these are now not legal.
State lotteries are the biggest player ripoff in the book. So, you tell me. Is the government protecting us from ourselves, from the evils of gambling, protecting America's families as they say. Or are they just stuck their with their dicks in their hand because they cant get a piece of the online action.
The people that think this is George Bush thing or a Republican thing are out to lunch. This is a government thing. If a Democrat had been in office and the Online Gaming Act came through as a rider on the Safe Ports Act - like it did - you can guarantee it passes just like it did now. No one was voting against it once that happened.
So if you want to blame someone blame the bill sponsors.
The hypocrisy of this is what sickens me. If they banned all online gambling, or all gambling, then it sucks, but at least it doesnt reek of the bullsh1t hypocrisy this town is painted in - on both sides of the aisle.
