the following is a copy & paste of a letter to the editor from a washington state newspaper. as we all know wash. has made it illegal to place a bet online....unless your a politican...fuhking hypocrits !!!....they get me sick !!

Bets surely violated online gambling law

Well, isn't this nice. Gov. Gregoire bet hundreds of dollars worth of Washington state goods against the governor of Illinois that the Seahawks would win Sunday's game. At stake from our corner was smoked salmon and Washington's world-renowned apples. The governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, countered with a state fair favorite barbecue platter and something called "Cozy Dogs," apparently another Illinois tradition.

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels couldn't pass up on the fun, so he and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley raised the pot to include pork chops, steaks, hot dogs, pretzels, chips, nachos, pizza, popcorn and, horrors, beer. Meanwhile, we taxpaying citizens (some of us business owners paying taxes every quarter to the state) are residents of the state that led the nation making it a felony to place a 10-cent bet on online poker in the privacy of our own homes. Since I am pretty sure this "wager" between the governors and mayors were made via e-mail over the Internet, who should we arrest first? Wouldn't it have been more prudent to pledge these items to people who really need them, i.e. the poor or homeless in the respective cities?

I must be slightly confused....where in the heck is it a felony to place a 10 cent poker wager?? Please tell me this isnt the case.

Anyways.....how funny would it be if someone in those states actually tried to place them under citizens arrest. :142smilie

were you just born yesterday? these type of friendly wagers with city mayors and governors have been going on for many years and most people just raise an eyebrow as it doesn't involve any monetary compensation so get over it.

dtb...

it's either that or it's because his chargers blew it again.

no dtb...i think our friend is an idealogue who probably hasn't been out in the real world yet.

socalyo...

you miss the point of this guys letter.

so let me explain it to you & i'll type slowly for you so you can understand it.

in the state of washington it's a felony to make a wager over the inter-net. the governor was very active in passing this law.

now she goes & makes a bet on the seahawks/bears game last week with the mayor of chicago.

the bet is for goods....which cost money.

the author of the letter is surmising that e-mails were sent between the offices of these politicans in arranging the bets.....therefore this author (not me) feels that the governor broke the law that she helped pass.

do you understand the point the author is trying to make.....that poiliticans are hypocrits.

They're also not spending their rent money. They're spending yours. Besides, it's always been against federal law to gamble over the internet or state lines

Um

Um

Danmurphy Jr, are you an atty., cause if not, saying something is illegal makes you sound like an attorney. Trying, either accidentally or on purpose to give legal advice (i.e., claiming something is/is not illegal) is what is known as misrepresentation, and is a crime in every jurisdiction I know of.

As far as I am aware, no one has ever been successfully convicted by the Feds for betting over the internet or over "state lines," whatever that is...

you see son, this is what we grown ups call a "figure of speech". Which is known as an idiomatic expression that means something other than its literal interpretation. For instance, "I'll clean your clock" does not mean, "I'll dust and polish your timepiece," but rather, "I will beat you severely."

maybe someday when you are older you'll understand. Run along now the adults are trying to have a conversation.
