THE SCOUTING REPORT
VILLANOVA (13-5, 2-3 Big East): The Wildcats are coming off a key non-league win over Texas, a 79-69 win. They were sparked by impressive freshman point guard Scottie Reynolds who scored a season-high 27 points. Earlier in the week, the 'Cats beat a second ranked team, Notre Dame, 102-87. . . Villanova is certainly used to the road. The Wildcats are 6-2 on the road, 2-1 on neutral courts and own wins over Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Georgetown away from home. . . Nardi, Sheridan, Cunningham and Clark all played key roles in last season's 28-5 finish, the best in school history. . . Sumpter did not play against Texas. His status for tonight is unknown. He leads the Big East in scoring at 18.9 per game. . . Clark stepped in for Sumpter and totaled 11 points and 12 boards against Texas. . .Nova is plus 5.6 off the boards and shoots 45 percent from the field.
PROVIDENCE (13-5, 3-2 Big East): The Friars hope to extend an impressive 13-1 record at home against surging Villanova. The two schools did not meet last season. The Wildcats have won the last three meetings and the last game in Providence, an 83-78 overtime win on Jan. 11, 2005. . . PC eclipsed last season's win total with a win over Rutgers on Saturday. After committing 46 turnovers in its last two games, Friars had a season-low nine miscues against Rutgers. . . McDermott leads the BIG EAST in rebounding (10.3), assists (5.4) and double-doubles (10). . .Hill averaged 18.5 points, 14 rebounds and blocked 5.5 shots in two games last week. McDermott, Hill and Kale need to continue their season-long dominance off the boards. . . PC is 15-9 against Villanova at home in Big East play and 6-18 in Philadelphia.
PC's Weyinmi Efejuku took a hard fall in the Friars' win over Rutgers Saturday and had an MRI of his tailbone yesterday. Welsh said Efejuku is probable for tonight.
