Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
Bad back and my wife complaining of bad sleep prompted me to look into mattresses.

Think about it, you spend a quarter to a third of your life on one.

Asking friends what they had was a start. My neighbor (Janie Bigbux) bought a Swedish something for $4000.00, mattress + box spring.
She confided she sleeps just as well on her son's Serta Posture Pedic when he is at college.

Most had Sealy or Serta. Trying them out at the furniture store (as if 15 minutes was enuff), they are a toss-up...

Here is the rub....once you buy one, no return!!

Why I ask? Health code, they can not sell a "used mattress" well ok I say.

We go to other stores and hear the same policy.

On a lark, we go to Sears (Yes Jay Leno, they are still there) we found the same mattress with another name, as we did at every store. I asked a salesman why different names?

I had already figured that out, discourages phone price shopping, no other store voluntered that info.

At Sears the Serta Baytown,( Sierra Spring where we bought it) was about 40% more. I asked about return policy...guess what? YOU CAN RETURN IT for exchange after 30 day trial!!

She told me of a lady that retuned and exchanged 4 times!! (Figure she was Mattress Mary, the Whore of Babylon) On the fifth attempt they told her no more exchanges...

Sears has an insurance policy on mattresses; what they are doing in essence, is charging 40% more, which covers the insurance premium.

So if you are a bad sleeper, and need trials, go to Sears.

The other companies are less expensive but their "Health Code" story is their out. They do not opt for the insurance.

Hope this helps someone...

Work in retail and get a sore back once in a while. We have a King Waterbed and wouldn't trade that for anything. You wake up and sore back is gone!

Just my 2 cents.

i slept on one of those for about 20 years and my back is horrible. Not sure if it was the bed or just killing myself at work but i went to another bed for two years then back to the waterbed and my back starting hurting again. I hope it works out for you bud but every doctor i talked to says they are terrible for the back. There is nothing better than climbing in the sucker in the winter tho. So warm and comfy.

Forgot to mention..

Forgot to mention..

We had a 4 year old Spring Air back support pillowtop....POS..... most pillowtops look good and sleep good for a year or two then they begin to break down and "imprint" even with rotation, ours developed a very noticeable ridge in the center.

We went with Serta and "Low profile box springs"
huge difference getting in and out...
