Don't sit on it long, you'll drown. Personally, I don't see an upside to investing money in the area as you aren't the first person to think of that and the prices are actually higher now then before the hurricane. There are a lot of areas that have better investment opportunities than the high water mark in LA. If it is real estate or land you are looking to buy then I suggest you try some other up and coming areas. Las Vegas, Frisco Texas, Montana farm land is starting to escalate as many of the rich are buying it up. If you want to flip something for a profit, might I suggest crack?
Vegas isn't exactly up and coming. It came and went and is dipping now. I'd wait at least a year for vacancy rates to get lower.
Utah is probably easy money right .now. Prices never really boomed the way NV, AZ, etc did. 2nd fastest growing state, still plenty of value.

I would invest in Montana farm land right now if I were to invest in real estate right now. Those other places that were mentioned are pretty dried up.

Ray, they had a tornado there today, so I would say no. Some people were days away from within back into their homes, no way tornado, place is cursed.

A few weeks ago a man by the name of T Denny Sanford (117 on Forbes 2006 richest US people) donated $400 million to Sioux Valley Hospitals in Sioux Falls, SD. This is going to double our growth rate over the next 10 years and add 9,200 jobs. We have been a rapidly growing city over the past 10 years and it looks like it's going to get crazy now. As far as I can see this a great oppurtunity to start buying realestate in Sioux Falls, and it's cheap!
