interesting weekend...
Big East member St.John's scores 10 points in an entire first half against visiting Duke..
Wisc. and Ohio St. do battle in a Big Ten battle for #1 in the NCAA Polls and Ohio St. ekes out a 49-48 win.
The Tarheels and Terps go at it in Maryland w/Terps Down by 12 points against No. 5 North Carolina with just over 7 minutes left Maryland comes back to defeat Tarheels 89-87 Sunday and extend its winning streak to five games.
Interesting contrast..Two Big Ten teams combine for 97 points in an entire game while over in the ACC match-up Maryland tallies 89 points alone to defeat Tarheels..
Certainly styles produce different scores but hard to imagine 49 points winning a game in the second or third round of this years NCCA March Madness.
Potential rematch of Ohio St. versus Tarheels in Tourney would be very interesting..Would Tarheels drop another 98 on Buckeyes..Would Buckeyes choose to run w/Heels again..I doubt it but ya never know..Total will be interesting.
Wisc. Big Ten schedule may prove to be their undoing..Dropping 60's and 70's on Minn., Penn St., Northwestern,Iowa and Mich. is one thing..if they get the #1 seed in the South Region taking it away from Fla.[dropping 2 out of their last 3] they may run into the likes of Fla.,Maryland,Neveda who surely will want to push tempo.Loss of Brian Butch and defeat by Ohio St. could place Wisc. in a #2 spot..Don't think it would be the first time selection committee droped a potential #1 to #2 seed because of injury to a major contributor on said team..Committee likes for #1's to hold up..Better TV ratings.
Wisc. did show some scoring prowess when they dropped 89 on Pitt. back in Dec. but that was nearly 9 weeks ago a an injured player later.
March around the corner..some good hoops and hopefully some warmer weather for our forum members caught up in these miserable snow and ice storms..
good luck to all..
