La Russa nabbed for DUI

St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was arrested and jailed Thursday on a charge of driving under the influence.
According to a release from the Jupiter Police Department, La Russa was found asleep behind the wheel of his running sport utility vehicle at a traffic light at approximately midnight.
The 62-year-old La Russa provided two breath samples and had a blood alcohol content of 0.093 percent. Florida's legal limit is 0.08.

La Russa was arrested and booked on misdemeanor charges and was released from the Palm Beach County Jail at approximately 8:20 a.m. after posting $500 bond.
The Cardinals issued the following statement after learning of La Russa's arrest:
"The Cardinals organization remains supportive of Tony and we understand that he has enlisted representation to advise him through any legal process. The Cardinals apologize for any embarrassment and or distraction this reported occurrence has created towards the team and its loyal fans."
According to the police report, undercover officers spotted La Russa's SUV stopped partially in an intersection. The vehicle did not move through two cycles of green lights.
The officers repeatedly knocked on the window, but La Russa did not initially respond. The car was in drive with the engine running, but La Russa had his foot on the brake.
Once La Russa woke up, he fully cooperated with the police, putting the vehicle in park and undergoing a field sobriety test.
Major League Baseball's third all-time winningest manager with a career record of 2,297-1,986, La Russa is expected to be on the bench for the Cardinals' Grapefruit League game against Florida on Thursday afternoon.
Last season, La Russa guided the Cardinals to their first World Series title since 1982, making him only the second manager to win a championship in both leagues. La Russa managed the Oakland Athletics to three straight World Series appearances, including a title in 1989.
St. Louis has reached the postseason seven times in La Russa's 11 years with the club.

This trend mystifies me. If you are making 2+million a YEAR, hire a full time driver. Call a cab, a limo, a helicopter,your wife. SOMETHING.

Before becoming a manager, he earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Florida State University, but never entered the legal profession. La Russa has been quoted as saying, "I decided I'd rather ride the buses in the minor leagues than practice law for a living."
ya better believe he is smart enough to not represent himself here..
hard lesson to learn..sad thing is some folks die at the hands of us that don't stay from behind the wheel when we are drinking..
but when we do finally hurt and or kill someone the stark reality changes your life more than any friggin' drink we ever took.
Lets hope Fla. has mandatory rehab and loss of liscense..

You are right & i am as guilty as the next guy. I never drive shit faced, but definately over the legal limit.
Reminds me of the time i waited 2 hours for the stop sign to change green. Is .09 really that drunk? There had to be something else with the alcohol. Unless he was just exhausted or a light driunker. .09 what is that 5 beers?
