So. Cal
i dont care how good they are, what their record is, or if they make it back to the final 4........when they play outside of the pac-10 their games are unwatchable (even in-conf half their games are unwatchable)

their game vs memphis LY was watching paint dry in a bucket ...

I did put a decent amount on them to win pac-10, and I know you liked zona to win it ... but that aside, what do you think the prob is in Zona? now theres a program that is going backward instead of upwards as opposed to Bruins under Howland.

curious your take?

what do you think Zona's prospects are against UCLA in the near future?

here are my top five problems the past 4 years

shakur (actually he could be the only problem)
major recruiting mistakes that continue (a 7 foot big man coming in next year that ave 7 points and 5 boards in high school?)
no depth and/or lack or developing depthf
poor defense
weak asst coaches

the black cloud has been lifted now that shakur is gone.....the WORST point guard at arizona in the last 20 years and lute screwed up by giving him the keys to the program for 4 years, not develpoing or recruiting another decent option at pg and having a bunch of busts in recruiting (taking jp prince over darren collison, taking fendi onobun over law hill from stanford, daniel dillon, mo tangara, etc, etc, etc).

the incoming class is generally regarded as top 5 with bayless from phx ready to take over at the point....lute has a pretty good track record with arizona recruits (elliot, bibby, jefferson, frye...all top 10 picks in the draft) . I hope marcus williams declares for the draft because i think he's auditioning and not really a very productive team player (have no idea how he thinks he's an nba player but that's the nba) AND he's in budinger's #3 spot. Chase played the #2 and got killed vs guards on defense.

all that said the non conf schedule is brutal next year:

@kansas
@ illinois
@ unlv
@ memphis
virginia
sdsu
texas am

who fking made that schedule?????

So. Cal
45 combined turnovers in this classic

i will admit it was 100x more watchable than the ucla-memphis west final last year and at least had some pace and tempo

I agree 100% with everything in this post gjn, love your take on zona, you always bring meat with your arguements involving pac10. I actually think I had this same conversation with a freind a week or two ago. I said " I have bet on ucla probably 5 or 10 times this year and I cant even stand to watch one of those games and If i did watch them, I would probably root against my own bet just to see them lose"

I just hate the style of ball they play, it is literally no fun to watch. But tonight vs KU it was different, it was an amazing defensive low scoring affair but it must have been the pace of the game that made it much more enjoyable.

agree that this game was pretty exciting even tho a slugfest and steal orgy ... ucla is just plain ornery on D and as a coach I dont mind watching it IF they score a bit .. tonight they hit a lot of shots and put away a good team ... early in game i thought KS would prob win when they went up 7 and bruins just kept coughing ball for no real reason ...

now need the other two faves to win to have all 4 in my finals bracket and in my futures ...

ps nice info on zona, gjn, i think they need to get Lute out, like i said, one of greatest ever no question, a huge idol of mine, but like jopa, time has come IMHO... ucla and usc will be around it appears
