Record: 11-1-1 +17.9 units

I love the card today, which is usually a bad thing. When I play all the games I like I usually don't do well and when I try to narrow it down to a couple of games I sometimes end up kicking myself in the azz for picking the wrong ones. The appetizer...

Balty -1.5 200/250 Almost bet this one last night when the line was +135 but hadn't done enough research, so I lost 10 points. I've always thought Bedard is very underrated. Even though he hasn't pitched as well as he did a couple of years ago he is still a solid young lefty. He has had pretty good success against the Royals and don't see any reason why that would change today.

On the other side Brandon Duckworth toes the rubber for KC. There's pretty much no excuse for the O's not to put runs up against this guy. A few stats on the Duckman... 7.97 ERA on the road, 7.07 ERA at night, 9.12 ERA in April. Plus you have to love the fact that he somehow managed to pitch well in his first start. What are the odds of lightning striking twice? He's only pitched once against the O's, and that was in relief, and he gave up 2 runs in 1 1/3. Last night the O's couldn't get runners in. Tonight I'm betting they do.

The main course...

Pirates ML 326/200 - I hate laying juice like this and this is another one that I could have gotten cheaper last night but I didn't pull the trigger. Therefore -150 has become -163. I can't believe I'm backing the Pirates. Not that I think they're a terrible team, but they sure find a lot of ways to lose close games. Having said that, I think this is one of the bigger starting pitching mismatches you will see all year. Duke is a very good young lefty with a 3.55 ERA at home and a 3.57 ERA in night games. Better yet, in his starts against SF he has a 2.19 ERA and a .227 BAA. His record is 0-0 against them because, I'm guessing here, the Bucs couldn't score runs for him.

Last year Russ Ortiz was arguably the worst pitcher in baseball. He went 0-8 with an 8.14 ERA and 40 walks in 63 innings. Wow. The guy can't hit the broadside of a barn and when he does throw strikes he usually gets hit hard. He couldn't make it out of the 5th inning in his first start and I don't expect him to pitch well today. Wilson and Bay hit .462 against him and Nady hits .429. The only guys he seems to pitch well against are the Pirates pitchers. :142smilie I also have to mention just how bad the SF offense. I'm sorry, but if Ray Durham, who is approximately 63 years old, is your clean-up hitter, your lineup sucks. That's embarrassing as far as I'm concerned. Having said that, he'll probably go 5 for 5 tonight. :mj07:

Good luck all!

I hate betting against my Giants but they are worthless this year, I mean really worthless!

This is almost the play of the night if you ask me! This is too easy of a bet, however the Giants have solved Ortiz's pitching issues and that scares me a bit, the problem is the offense which makes Pitt the play since the Giants don't have one!

Thanks fellas. GL to you too!

SO,

I've heard the same thing about the Giants saying they have fixed Ortiz. I don't know if I buy it yet. He looked good for a few innings in his last start but he ended up getting pulled before he could finish the 5th. And I've always liked betting against pitchers with control problems. It's an opportunity for a lot of runs.

Completely agree about the Giants lineup. A big part of my reason for the bet is that I expect Duke to shut them down. At least I hope he does!

Hey BK. I'm still looking at the Angels/Sox and A's/Yanks games.

I almost bet on the Angels but the more I look into it the more I see that the Sox have hit Lackey hard. He's 1-2 with a 5.60 ERA and a .316 BAA against them in 5 starts. Ramirez is 11-22 with 4 HR and 12 RBI against him and Ortiz, Varitek and Cora all hit over .300 against him. Somehow Crisp has 3 HR against him in 20 bats as well? :mj07:

Wakefield doesn't fare much better against the Angels. Vlad is 8 for 16 with 4 HRs and Garrett Anderson is 20 for 61 with 5 HR and 15 RBI. Kotchman and Rivera also have had some minor success against him. And although his ERA in April is about 3 his ERA against the Angels is 6.75 with a .315 BAA (over the last 3 years). This started as a possible bet on the Angels but I'm leaning to Over 9 if I play it at all now.

I also am looking at the A's over the Yanks. Haren is a stud and he's 3-0 with an ERA under 3 against the Yanks in his career. The only problem is that there are some big averages against him. Jeter - .476, Cano - .474, Damon - .350, Mientkiewicz - .417. I guess he must work out of a lot of jams against them?? Despite those averages I still like Haren and the A's because I think their lineup, even though it's weak, will score some runs tonight. The Yanks pitcher is totally unproven and didn't look good in his first start.

I also think the M's at home with Washburn might be a worth shot. They have a few hitters that hit Millwood well and Washburn pitches much better at Safeco than he does on the road.

Good luck!

So. California
I am looking at the Angels too. I like Lackey this year and I personally have never had luck betting on Wakfield.....now that's capping for you.....haha

That Oak game scares me but I like your reasoning..Haren is a stud

Yeah, I probably won't play the side on the Angels game but if I had to choose I would take ANA. And you're right, betting against the Yanks with their lineup is always scary. Especially when you look at the A's lineup. NOT scary. :mj07: Just leans for me right now. Not sure if I'll play any other games. Good luck with your plays...

Ok, I'm just not going to get away from these two games so I will play them. I'm guessing the streak ends tonight as I doubt I will go 4-0! :mj07:

Angels/Sox O9 240/200 - Same reasons mentioned above. Neither pitcher has great numbers against the other team so I expect to see a lot of baserunners. Fenway not exactly a pitcher's park either. I hate playing totals, especially overs, but the numbers seem to call for it here.

A's 210/200 - Again, same reasoning as above. I know there are some Yanks that have good numbers against Haren but I don't think he needs to be perfect tonight. Igawa got rocked in his first start and, more importantly, didn't have good control. That's a recipe for disaster against the A's because they are one of the most patient, disciplined teams there is. They'll gladly take a walk and they'll also get a lot of hits if you fall behind in the count and make you throw a hitter's pitch. If the A's were a free-swinging team I wouldn't like this bet as much. Since they're a patient team I think they will allow Igawa to hang himself and then make him pay.

GL everyone!

Well it looks like that piece of chit Duke is up to his old tricks. :mj07: Every time I bet on this loser he gets shelled. But the Giants? Wow.

Sorry to anyone who tailed the Pitt game. Stupid bet on my part as I bet on a shitty team, a pitcher who has killed me in the past, and I bet against a team that has been struggling, whicis is something I NEVER do. My bad...

Yeah, those "paper" bets kill me. :142smilie I've actually been lucky so far this year. The bets that look good on paper have been winning for the most part. This Pirates game is giving me flashbacks to last year!

This is going to be a rough day. The Pirates bet is a loser because Duke is crapping the bed and will be left out there to get embarrassed by the Giants, and the Sox and Angels are in a pitcher's duel despite the fact that the numbers pointed to a high scoring game. Now I remember why I never play the overs... they seem to never come in no matter how good they look on paper! :mj07:

No kidding. I don't feel great with Bruney and Rivera as the last two relievers for the Yanks. Don't think the A's will hit either one. I'm still trying to figure out why Kielty was put in the THIRD spot in the order??? That really killed them in the bottom of the 9th. Chance to win the game and Kielty blows it as usual. Why no pinch-hitter there?
