I apologize in advance for my ignorance... :com:

I'm not a big hockey guy, but like to tune in at playoff time.... I was wondering how Home Ice is determined for the Finals? What if both 1 seeds made the Finals?

Considering a future play on the Cup winner...just trying to cover all the bases. Thanks in advance!

That is a good question...I'm not 100% sure, but during the regular season, if teams are tied, they go to number of wins. If they are still tied, they go to H-to-H matchups during the season to decide. Then I think they go to goals for...and so on and so on.

Maybe someone could verify if I'm right on this?

Home ice is decided by seeding. Seeding is determined at the end of the season by how many points a team has accumulated thru wins. ie Detroit is seeded #1 and will have home ice advantage as long as they continue to win their series. The higher ranked team has home ice advantage. I hope i didn't confuse you even more.

Thanks guys.....yeah, I understand the seeding WITHIN the conference. I'm just trying to figure out the Home Ice for the Finals only.

In other words, if Buffalo and Detroit meet (both #1 seeds from their conference), how is the Home Ice determined? Most points?? Rotate between conferences each year?

The greater number of games won

would be the 1st tie-breaker if both have same # points....example buffalo had 53 wins vs detroit 50 wins so would get home ice...
