The subject of plucking came up in a thread started by Glenn and the M's/Boston game

This morning I read this quote from Boston manager Francona..

When the ball flew off his bat toward the right-center field bleachers, Ramirez stood in the batter's box for four seconds. When it landed there, beyond Boston's bullpen, he was just 10 feet down the first-base line before starting to run.

"The timing was perfect," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "He absolutely leaned on it. He hit that ball like a power left-hand hitter. I can see why he probably admired it." :nono:

..first thing I thought of was....:SIB

if Clemens shows up in a Boston uniform at the end of this month does Francona change his tune when "The Rocket" nails someone right between the shoulder blades when the previous batter has shown him up?

Would very much like to see that sequence of events..

..see the "don't show me up or I will show your team-mate a 95 mph fastball up close and personal" all changed when the money become so huge in MLB..[not saying the big $$$ are wrong..quite the contrary..any person is worth whatever someone is willing to pay] but what the big $$$$ did was create a situation where nobody wants to be the player who cost a fellow Pro the earning power that the MLB Union created for itself with their solidarity within the ranks.Makes for a uneasy situation.Millions and millions and potential $$$ lost because someone tales a heater in the wrong part of the body and is no longer around for that next huge contract.

BUT...there is a dinosaur waiting in the wings who is not only willing to work for 5 months for huge $$$$ but who is also willing to drill ya and drill ya good.

will be very interesting see which side of Francona's mouth he talks out of given that he has the potential with Ramirez to be put between a rock and a hard place in any given AB by Manny.Compound that w/Clemens "The Dinosaur" showing an opposing hitter his life pass before his very eyes and Terry Francona will need a very good shrink or an even better "spin doctor".

There is a collection of very knowledable baseball fans within the forum.I am very interested to read your thoughts on this subject..I am especially eager to hear from RedSox fans who are without a doubt some of the most ardent in all of baseball.

Does Ramirez put you in a spot where you too have to speak out of both sides of your mouth as well? When Manny hits a bomb and decides to tie his shoelaces before running around the bases do you jump up gives "High Fives" all around or do you cringe at the thought that you will have to sit with a mute voice and emotionless because "The Dinosaur" will drill the ensuing batter up in the very next half inning when an opposing hitter does the same.

Hummmm..lets see that quote again.

yea and I can see why Ramirez is going to force his team-mates to sit on their hands in the dugout when that first bean-ball war commences..Ya can't hardly go punch somebody in the face when your team-mates instigate the war can you?

..or maybe you can..especially if you have eyesight like Terry Francona:nono:

Uh oh. Didn't mean to open a can of worms yesterday! in regards to what would happen if Manny gets plunked for showboating, I think Manny's teammates know he is a bit, um... eccentric, but I think they would have his back no matter what. They know their team is basically Manny and Ortiz so even if they think he's an a-hole they would have to protect him if he was being thrown at.

The guy's a phenomenal talent, I can't doubt that for a second, but he would drive me up the wall if I was a Sox fan. I don't expect players to be superheroes or anything but I absolutely expect them to play hard and hustle. Despite the big numbers he puts up I would never be able to get past the lackadaisacal, it's such a bother to be out here even though I'm getting paid a gazillion dollars, attitude he seems to have.

Just thought id say this about Francona.
Great manager imo.
He knows how to keep players happy.

How many times have you seen a ballplayer stare at a deep drive anticipating it going yard?Alot IMO.

probably the worst outfielder in the league

Costs them as many games as he wins.

Sosa would be a close 2nd

Jakie Jones would be 3rd

Then you probably havent watched alot of redsox games lately.
Cool april at the bat, although hes heating up.

When he first got here he was horrible in oufield.
But now he holds his own,and makes very few errors, and has alot (in the past anyway) outfield assist.Your intitled to you opinion thou.

Good job filling in for Cisco:00hour

Oh I wasn't even thinking of defense when I said that. I just know the guy can flat-out rake. But yeah, watching him play outfield is quite an adventure. I particularly enjoyed his basket catch on a routine fly ball in the first inning last night. No reason for it whatsoever... I guess he just wanted to mix things up a bit.
