I have only played online....and I'm not much of a poker player...but the local casino here has a tourney where the winner wins a seat at the World Series of Poker.....so I thought hey why not give it a try. But before I play I thought I'd enter some of the "warm up" tourneys......problem is I'm not exactly sure what the following means:

No-Limit Texas Hold'em Freeze Out
$100 Entry Fee + $10 Administration + $5 Bounty

.....what is a "bounty" and a "freeze out"?

No-Limit Texas Hold'em Re-buys and Add-on
$50 Entry Fee + $10 Administration + $5 Bounty
$25 Conditional Re-buys and Add-on

...what is a "Add on" and does rebuy mean if ya lose ya just buy in again and again and again....how the heck do ya get eliminated?

and as for the World Series event qualifyer......

Win a Seat to the 2007 WSOP
$200 Entry Fee + $25 Administration
$50 Conditional Re-buys and Add-on

....I'd assume the "Re-buys" and "add on" is the same as the other tourneys listed above?

and finally...........the Admin fee is where the casino makes the money right?

Freezeout means no rebuys... you get an amount of chips and play with those, no way to add on or rebuy. Bounty tournaments are held on ultimate bet, and each time you knock someone out you get that bounty fee. So lets say you knock a guy out, you'll get the $5. Knock another guy out and you get another $5 and so on.

Rebuys are only possible usually to the first break (usually means the first hour) When this break hits, you can add-on a fixed amount of chips for however much an add on costs. After this, you play the tournament like a freezeout and you cannot rebuy or add on, only play with the stack you amass after the first hour.

The WSOP seat has the same settings as the other tournaments. And the admin fee goes to the house for each of these.

goodluck and play well.

forget it, i misunderstood.....

you are paying 250 with 50 add ons or rebuys. you need 40 people for this to work.

if you get more than 80 and they aren't giving away two seats or paying out proportionatly its a scam.

gl either way and hope you do well

if you aren't willing to go nuts with rebuys forget it.

thanks for the info tpaine07.............greatly appreciated...that answers my questions :SIB

BleedDodgerBlue:

I think there is a limit of 160 people at the World Series of Poker qualifyer.......with an entry fee of 225 Canadian dollars and a 1 in 160 chance of winning 6000 tax free dollars cash and an all expense paid trip to Vegas and a seat at the World Series of Poker

isn't that worth entering

you say I shouldn't enter because it's a scam

Maybe I'm just an idiot....but I see it worth entering

also.........please explain this statement further:

"if you aren't willing to go nuts with rebuys forget it"

Why do ya say that

thanks,

don't just think because you have a 1 in 160 chance of winning a seat that means anything.

you can have a 1 in 10 chance at a 1000 one table sattellite.

you can have a 1 in 20 chance at a 500 two table sattellite

etc.......
it's not the lotto, there is skill involved and you can qualify any number of ways. its up to you how you want to enter.

i get confused with your exchange rate, but if 160 people enter at 200 bucks a pop thats 32k right there. 3 entries to the main event. and that doesn't even include the rebuys and add ons. your initial post never mentioned the additional 6k or i missed it but whatever. my point was that they better be paying out the 2nd and 3rd and etc. with the extra money if they are only giving one seat away. wheres the extra money going? most likely to the players, but you never mentioned it so it could be a scam.

as for rebuy tournaments, if you don't want to re-buy or add-on or anything, don't even play the first hour. just show up at the break and play. or be prepared to ram and jam with any two and rebuy til you drop and try and build a big stack.

gl and hope you win

If I were you, I'd go for freeze out games. It'll be a good training for a newbie.
