The Padres pounded the Mariners in the series
opener last night, and they should follow up
with another strong offensive display against
the unimpressive Horacio Ramirez (6.40 ERA
in six starts). San Diego checks in with a 7-3
(+$445) record against southpaws, averaging
5.4 runs per game in those contests. Veteran
Greg Maddux is having a solid season (3.20
ERA in eight starts), and after last night's loss,
Seattle is now only 4-9 vs. righties in night
games at Safeco (-$670 with only 3.4 runs
per game). This game shapes up beautifully
for the visitor, and the price is right.

The Giants are getting some solid work from their rotation (3.95 team ERA) but despite the loss of Barry Zito to free agency, and the prolonged absence of Rich Harden, the Athletics? pitching has been the best in baseball (3.10). It?s uncanny how they come up with quality arms year after year. They?ve been scoring lots of runs in recent days (6.4 per game last 10), and it?s just a matter of time before the wins start to really pile up. We?ll stick Danny Haren (1.89 ERA in eight starts) and Chad Gaudin (2.40 in seven starts), who are better than anything SF has to offer (Giants only 11-12, -$115 vs. righthanders with 4.5 runs per game). BEST BET: Haren/Gaudin.
