Steve Trachsel picks up the win over the Blue Jays tonight, despite walking three with only one strikeout over six innings. The Blue Jays five hits against Steve resulted in just two runs, low enough for the Orioles to take the game 5-2. For the season now, Trachsel walked 28 and struck out 18 in 57 1/3 innings.

17 in play outs tonight....53% k/bb ratio

Those numbers don't bode well for his long term success.

Keep any eye on his next start....

I have wondered that his whole career. His entire career is an anamoly of sorts. Career ERA sucks and most of that time was spent in the National League. He has nothing that would be considered anything difficult to hit. I have always considered him someone who eats up a lot of innings and wins about half his decisions. He's a mediocre pitcher and for the life of me I don't know how he's managed to last as long as he has.

I track starting pitchers using a formula that generates a score based on IP, H, ER, K and BB and then I normalize it so that an average outing gives a score of 0 and the higher the score the more impressive the outing and the lower the score the worse the outing. And you're right, Traschel's numbers arent very impressive. His "scores" this year so far are

5, 17, -27, 5, 0, -2, 7, -14, 1

Only 1 really good start and alot of mediocre starts.

I was long gone from the league when Trachsel came on board but you can look at his #'s and everything else but the one thing he does that pisses many hitters off which does not show up in the #'s category is step offs. His gms take forever. He forces hitters to play his gm and nibbles here and there and makes anxious hitters frustrated by not being in a hurry. I wish I could bet on a time frame for a gm because this bastard would take 5 hrs if he could to complete a gm. Take a look at the length of the gm and you will see what I am talking about. I hated pitchers who stepped off the rubber and were not in any hurry to get things done. Hitters get very frustrated by this. It's like he could check mate you at anytime but he lets you play his game for awhile then he lulls you to sleep.

Trachsel throws a one run complete game :mj07:

KC should have had at least three runs. Baltimore played some outstanding defense tonight, and saved at least 2-3 runs.

3 BB
0 Ks ???

Seems like he should be on borrowed time, but he keeps getting it done. I might start fading him after the all-star break. I thought about the over 10.5 (at least thats what I think I saw at SIA).

When he was on the Cubs they called him the human rain delay. Players in the field can't stand his program.
