If you wouldn't mind answering a quick question for me, I have a sizeable wager with someone else on this site (and I am currently 0-1 with my madjacks bets, although I am still convinced that s-murphy doesn't really know what his own name is)...

So my question is - do you know how to play omaha hi-lo?

Thanks...

I don't get your joke, but since I had a few drinks at dinner, I guess it's funny anyway :SIB

Strategy Tips:
Remember that you only play to scoop the pot, so after the flop, if your high hand is not a certain winner and will probably have to split with the low, or if you are playing for low and don't have a decent shot at the high hand, usually check/fold and get out early.

Slow play most Omaha hands. It is very difficult to run players off in this game and early raises are risky unless you know you can't lose.
Usually avoid playing middle suited connectors. Hands like 8h 9h that are often very playable in Holdem and Omaha high, are bad news in high-low split. To make the high end of a straight, you have to catch the cards that will also qualify low hands. To play these you also need a suited ace or an A2.

Don't overbet A2, A3 and 2 3 nut lows. These are often shared with another player and you can end up getting "quartered". In other words, if there are two playing the same nut low and one going high, you are in a situation where every bet you make contributes 1/3 to the pot that will only pay you 1/4 back. You do better if you can check around. Fast play in this situation only makes you money if there are three or more other players with either high or losing low hands.
Watch out for uniform flops, like 8 7 6, they can easily turn into straights that can overtake your high pair trips, or other good hand.

Beware of Suited Flops that can make a completed flush. In this case, you should usually hold the nut in that suit, or have trips or two pair that can fill up.

Check the raisers chips. Players that are close to all-in often rush the betting just to get all their chips in a sink-or-swim last hand.

Study your opponents, especially when you are not playing hands and can pay careful attention. Do they find more hands to play than they fold? Do they bluff? Can they be bluffed? Do they have any "tells" (give away mannerisms) that disclose information about their hands etc.

Get caught bluffing once in a while. It is a way to vary your play and not be too predictable. You win pots that you don't deserve when your bluff works. You lose a few chips when it doesn't work but it will get you calls from weaker hands down the line when you are really strong and need the action.

Pay very close attention to your cards. Omaha High Low hands can get confusing and it is sometimes easy to think you have a nut hand winner when you don't, or have the best possible hand and not realize it. Be careful to avoid these costly mistakes.

yes ma'am, why the question?

Thank you! I was telling a friend of mine who is on this site and going to the golf outing that we should have a poker game the night before if some people come down early, and in his usual whiny fashion, he proclaimed how much he hates Texas hold-em and he always has the best hand going in and gets sucked out on, blah blah blah, so I suggested we could play rounds of different kinds of poker so he wouldn't have to complain all night. Anyway, he then proclaimed that he doubted that anyone knew how to play omaha hi-lo, upon which I stated that I bet dunclock knew (since I saw that you were coming down a night early your name popped in my mind)...and then we proceeded to place a wager upon the fact that you did or did not know how to play the game, myself taking the bet that you did know how to play!

Thank you :SIB

I have a friend headed out to Vegas right now to play in the Ladies WSOP event starting tomorrow:00hour

Hope she does well, she had a 6th place finish in the Borgota a couple years ago. We went to Caesars couple of weekends ago, she finished 12th and I finished 11th, both just out of the nine paying spots.

Here is an Agent bad beat story; I am getting pretty short stacked and get 22 in SB. Two people go all in before it gets to me so I lay down thinking ONE of them had pocket deuces beat. Nope one had A7 the other AJ. First card off the flop a 2:cuss: . VERY next hand, I get pocket deuces again on the button, checked to me so I'M ALL IN. Don't worry, the SB has AA and I am:sadwave: :walk: :bigun:

It happens at the real tables just like online, you just play more hands online thus more opportunities for bad beats.

I am off to adopt my second dog from the Rescue Organization:mj23: He even looks like this little fella.

Laying down 22 pre flop isnt a bad beat story :com: Bad beat would be making a good call on some guys semi bluff with 22 and the board being 2a7 and the guy has a5 and the turn is 3,4

BTW what tourney were you playin at where people go all in with aj and a7?

At Caesars Indiana, every Saturday they have a $200+20 NL tournament, not saying it was a bad beat except for not calling it and missing out on the set. If I called that hand, would have been in third and cruised into some pretty good money. It is usually about timing and mine is normally bad:shrug:
