It seems strange posting something like this on Madjack's, but with the experiences of everybody out there, maybe I can get some answers.

On May 31st, my wife went for her annual mammogram. Friday, the dreaed letter arrived. "Something" was found on the mammogram, and an appointment has been set up for amother mammogram and an ultrasound. Nothing is definite at this time. Hopefully, whatever it is is not cancerous, but we're both preparing for the worst.

Has anybody gone through this? Is having an ultrasound and another mammogram precautionary, or should we brace ourselves for the inevitable??

Thanks,
"Joe"

From radiologyinfo.org:

False Positive Mammograms.
Five percent to 15 percent of screening mammograms require more testing such as additional mammograms or ultrasound. Most of these tests turn out to be normal. If there is an abnormal finding a follow-up or biopsy may have to be performed. Most of the biopsies confirm that no cancer was present. It is estimated that a woman who has yearly mammograms between ages 40 and 49 has about a 30 percent chance of having a false-positive mammogram at some point in that decade and about a 7 percent to 8 percent chance of having a breast biopsy within the 10-year period. The estimate for false-positive mammograms is about 25 percent for women ages 50 or older.

It's not time to start getting anxious yet. The request for repeat may be something as simple as dense muscle tissue that can't be fully visualized or a cyst. Just encourage your wife to have the repeat mammogram and U/S before y'all start planning for the worse. :)

P.S. I'm a nurse who also believes in the mind/body connection. Try your best to keep a positive attitude through all this.... it'll help the outcome.

Thanks, Va

It's set up for tomorrow afternoon. No matter how it turns out, she gotta realize that it's NOT a death sentence, but it IS an obstacle we can overcome.

Thanks again,
"Joe"

My sister-in-law and brother went thru hell and she's fine as everything came back negative and they were almost 100% sure....it will work out.

VaNurse,

Since this will be the second mammogram and first ultrasound, any idea how long we'll have to wait for the results?? The waiting is always the worst part.

Thanks!

Vinnie,

Did your wife have to take the second mammogram and ultrasound? If so, they still couldn't say one way or another?
How soon after that did they do the bioopsy?

Thanks,
"Joe"

yep took the second & they said we need to do a biopsy it was a few weeks to get the biopsy done.

hope it ends here for her but if it don't doesn't mean it's cancer.

It seems strange posting something like this on Madjack's,

First of all, NOTHING is too strange to post in the GD forum. I have asked numerous medical questions for myself and my daughter with GREAT answers. I have asked about car problems work issues, etc...

This is a great place for information about tons of things simply because someone else is bound to have been through what your asking about, it's one of the things that makes this place great.

As far as the repeat mamogram goes, my wife had to have one and I was worried sick about it, turned out to be dense tissue and nothing to worry about.

I just massage them more these days, you know, to keep an eye on things.

Best wishes.

:00hour :00hour :00hour Just got back from radiology and EVERYTHING IS FINE!!:00hour :00hour :00hour

Living in an Italian household, it was awfully quiet around here since Friday. Right now, the yelling and name calling has started, the boys are arguing, and I'm lovin' life!

Anniversary number 29 is Sunday. Its definitely going to be the most special.

To all of you out there who took the time to read and reply, a big THANKS! Everybody here is definitely special in his or her own way. Thanks again!

Penguinfan--the dense tissue thing is exactly what it was....going to massage them 38's to keep that density down!:mj06:
