Luke 18:18-22

18 Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, ?Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life??
19 So Jesus said to him, ?Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. 20 You know the commandments: ?Do not commit adultery,? ?Do not murder,? ?Do not steal,? ?Do not bear false witness,? ?Honor your father and your mother.??[a]
21 And he said, ?All these things I have kept from my youth.?
22 So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, ?You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.?

SixFive, Brad, Buddy: This unfortunate passage says you're not going to heaven unless you sell all your stuff. That kind of sucks. I don't think I could do it, and nor would I want to spend eternity with the ones who have.

"Go to heaven for the climate, hell for the company."

gmroz22,

A belief in Jesus Christ requires a leap of faith and obedience to the word of God. You will be trusting in much of what you do not understand and will NEVER understand through reason and logic...

however...

if you are sincere, Christ will reveal Himself to you. It may not happen as soon as you'd like but it will definitely happen and it will be right on time.

God want us to be holy. But we can't do it on our own. We are drenched in sin. This is why God sent His only son. Because Jesus saves. I wish I could be more eloquent in what I want to say. Nevertheless, the answer to what every person in this world is looking for is Jesus Christ.

Blessed be His holy name.

Actually, there isn't much room for interpretation. Unless of course you cherry pick the Bible and interpret it in a way that still allows you to qualify for heaven.

Waste of time for me to discuss with you since you are knowledgable about the Bible and don't believe it. no offense, just a counterproductive waste of time for me. I in no way cherry pick; I believe as a whole.

SixFive: Most people have not read the bible. They are only exposed to the parts the church chooses to share on Sunday and in bible study. The church understands that people are too lazy to read it on their own and therefore won't have to worry about defending it....and if someone does, they are called the devil by the priest and the flock follows suit.

Please interpret the following:

Luke 14:26-33
26 ?If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it? 29 lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ?This man began to build and was not able to finish?? 31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. 33 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.

Titus 2:9
9Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,

Leviticus 25:44
44'As for your male and female slaves whom you may have--you may acquire male and female slaves from the pagan nations that are around you.

More endorsement for slavery is in Exodus 21.

Here's another gem from the perfect Word of God. Let me know how to interpret this.
Leviticus 20:13
13'(A)If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them.

It has been said that the Bible makes the best case for not believing in God. I couldn't agree more. It is an ancient text that carries way too much weight in a modern society. It has outlived its usefulness, but the church can't afford to let it that happen.

"The Bible tells us to be like God, and then on page after page it describes God as a mass murderer. This may be the single most important key to the political behavior of Western Civilization."
-Robert Anton Wilson
