So. Cal
as a cub fan i've got fond memories of him from his 98 season as a cub.

not sure if many know the story of him trying to get back into baseball a few years ago. cubs gave him a minor leauge contract and he pitched for a while for the iowa cubs in aaa. while in des moines he lived in his rv beyond right field and invited fans back to his place all the time after games to sit around bbq and drink beers.......find me many other top caliber professional athletes that would do that.....truly a down to earth guy who didnt think of himself as any different than the rest of us.

sad to see him pass away.

Wow, having a bad Day, losing money on New York & Milwaukee, something like this always puts things in prospective. Dam 38. I don't think you could find a human being that would say anything negative about rod Beck. While in Boston he was always in the bars around Fenway talking with fans, just being a regular guy. Rip

The memories I have of "shooter" are just awesome. Fans here are real upset.

He had no business being a big league closer with his stuff, especially towards the end, but he always got the job done. It was an amazing sight.

And he had that perfect mix of blue collar, without being a redneck wannabe (which is an important thing when playing in SF).

As I read elsewhere:

Now Shooter is gone, and many questions remain. But you can be sure of this: Wherever he is, he's buying.
