OMG! What a little pansy. I benched 185 @ 14 years old. There was a kid in my neighborhood benching 315 @ 13 (this kid also was doing steroids). I know Durant has long arms, but benching 185 is fairly easy. A normal dude like me can still bench 185 about 20 reps.

i think pushing off is a foul so i would still take him on my team no matter what he can bench. If it was a weight lifting competition i wouldn't take him.

The NBA doesn't call every foul and Durant needs to get his weak ass in the weight room or he'll get pushed around by everyone. If there was any debate about the #1 pick, Durant made sure Oden is the pick.

I just benched 185 last night 22 times to start my workout. I'm also a lot more compact than Durant, but he should be able to bench 185 at least one time. I realize his long arms hurt his bench press, but he's still very weak.

yea, he definitely needs to get at least a little stronger. I can get 225 anywhere from 12-15 times on each Saturday I do chest, pretty sure I can get 185 for 25 give or take a few. he was the only one who couldn't do it.

destructor d, we tried a few weeks ago given there was competition at a local gym, how many times can bench 1/2 your body weight? at the time, i was 200 pounds (trying to lose a few since), therefore had 100 lbs on the bar and did it 64 times. it is harder than one thinks. try it.

im not sure Tayshaun Prince can get up 125 and i will take him on my team any day of the week. You guys get carried away with this stuff just like scouts get carried away with these combines. Reminds me of the time the Eagles for the first time in my life, i thought they were gonna take the guy i wanted. I think they had the 7th pick and Sapp was sitting right there and they needed a defensive lineman bad. Nah they were smarter than everyone and took a guy who did great in the combines. He had the big verticle leap and ran the nice 40. The Eagles grab him and he stunk. Mike Mamulah over Warren Sapp.:mj07: I heard this same stuff about Prince coming out of Kentucky. Prince is a pretty dam good player.

Seem to remember another Texas guy being ragged on pre draft.
Vince Young wonderlick score ring a bell.
Ask the Texans how Vince did his rookie season.

Larry Bird could barely lift a basketball, but he seemed to do just fine in a league that was 10 times more physical than it is now.

Keg you see a guy like Shack with all the big muscles on the injured list three times a year. You see a guy like Garnett skinny as can be never hurt. Same with guys like Nash, Stockton, Iverson. These guys are rarely hurt but the guys with all this bulk are always on the disabled list

Benching 185 is tough if you havent been in the weight room and Durant will have a tough time when guys in the NBA will push their weight around and throw a few elbows his way. BUT stop saying you can bench 185 20 X's when I will gladly grab your ass and drag your ass in the weight room and prove you wrong. Yes I am now a bodybuilder but your not 22 anymore but yes....Durant needs to hit the weights and bulk up. Dont think football, think basketball....Can Kobe bench 185 12- 15 times.....I would make a wager he can not. Go prop your ass on the weight bench and hit 185....you will find it is a lot tougher than you realize....again, your not getting any younger. I hate reading how guys who are bulked up are on the IR more than the skinny guys....this just isnt true....athletes who are more fit are not on the IR. But you must always realize you must be bulked up more to play underneath because of all the pounding. Athletes have different training methods just not to their sport but to their needs (position) in different sports. So many factors come involved, strenght, endurance, flexability....think about it, yes the kid can bench 225 5 x's but this kid can bench 185 16x's, given the position he is applying for you make the choice of who you want. Their are so many factors guys...

A couple things...Garnett is MUCH stronger than when he first entered the league. A strong guy now. The thing I can't get past is looking at a Portland team that already has Darius Miles, Travis Outlaw & Zach Randolph that are the same size as Durant. They also have what I consider to be a similar player (size and lack of strength) in LaMarcus Aldridge, along with LaFrentz, Magliore and Przybilla. He just does not seem like a need, but I do understand the talent the guy brings to the table. And I know some of these guys are not worth playing much, and might go elsewhere.

Pretty good looking team, though, putting out a starting five of Aldridge, Randolph, Durant, Roy and Jack.

I guess what I'm saying is, for those that think Durant will be the Blazers pick, I just don't see it. The GM really likes him, but Oden is a better fit for them - and most teams, for that matter.

I respectfully disagree. The added bulk puts added pressure on the body. Now we may have a difference of what my interpretation of added bulk is to yours . The added bulk is okay if you are gonna take a beaten but no way its good for the knees. You rarely hear of a skinny guys knee blowing out. Do i think Durant needs to get stronger sure but i wouldn't have him going nuts about it. I heard all this same talk about Prince and it looks like he is doing quite fine for himself. You don't need a 23 inch bicep to hit a three pointer or swat someones shot away. Getting underneath and banging isn't Durant's game. That is for power forwards. The same ones who are always injured.

I guess we will all agree to disagree. Prince is a very good player, but please keep in mind that he plays a role on a great TEAM where many nights he easily is the 5th offensive option behind Billups, Hamilton, Wallace, and Webber.

The expectation for Durant will be that he going to need to score probably 20 a game for a bad team each night. It is just a little different than Prince's case given the length of the season with travel. There are no off nights as we or the media probably have already annointed him this honor. Also a little different than 35 college games or so against college talent. Can his frame hold up, maybe, but even MJ knew he needed to hit the weights after getting battered each year from Detroit/NY. I am not saying he needs to turn into Hulk Hogan, but just a little bit would help and eventually he will need this to be the player we think he can.

On a different note, how about Durant signing a 60 million dollar shoe deal. You think this would have happened if he wasn't forced to play one year in college. Exposure has gotten him PAID and he/Oden should be grateful with the attention they are getting because of college ball.

When you have a borderline superstar on your team named Ray Allen along with Lewis (if he signs back on), Durant won't be asked to carry the team. But i do agree with you that he does need to get a little stronger but for me the body type i like is the Garnet type. I was interested in how Kenyon Martin rehab was going and there is a video on You tube from a month ago and to me he looks like he dropped about twenty or thirty pounds and it has to be for his knees. He looks great and i hope he can play again and now all Denver needs is a two guard and stick Blake on the bench.

Lewis is as good as gone and now there are rumors of Ray Allen to Boston for the #5 pick.
If this all happens then Durant score 25+ a game for a 20-25 win Sonic team.

Mike Conley Jr. benched 185 twelve times at the pro day... I'm absolutely sure Kobe could bench that amount 12-17 times the way he works out in the off season.

Tracy McGrady said in an interview he couldn't bench 185 when he came into the league... Who cares, the bottom line is that the guy can play. People get caught way too much about measurables.

Skeeter,
Typing about how tough you are @ Madjacks. I'm sure I could squash you like a grape. Now go shave your body like all the other bodybuilders:142smilie :mj07: Aren't half of bodybuilders gay as well?

I also agree how much a player bench presses doesn't mean a whole lot in the NBA. However, 185 isn't much weight even if Durant has extremely long arms. Durant needs to hit the weight room if he wants to become a star in the league. Durant will score, but the days of looking like George Gervin and not getting knocked around are long gone. Currently, the Ice Man is the only player I can compare with Durant.
