For you SEC fans, rank the top 5 SEC in-conference rivalries from an overall FAN perspective. This can span outside of football as well.

Some off the top of my head (not in order)

Auburn - Alabama
Alabama - Tennessee
Florida - Georgia
Tennessee - Florida
Tennessee - Vanderbilt
Kentucky - Tennessee
Tennessee - Georgia
Mississippi - Mississippi St.

Who are LSU's biggest rivalries??

I would say that UT-Vandy is a stretch for a "rivalry" Vandy did beat UT a couple of years ago, but it is usually an a$$ kicking.

I agree with the rest but would replace that one with So. Carolina-Georgia

Good post guys - one more week!:00hour

I've always enjoyed LSU-Arkansas - Not much history, but it's normally a good game. Or maybe I pretend to like it because it's Thanksgiving weekend so it usually gets me out of Xmas tree decorating.

SEC has by far the most rivalry games that mean something

Tennessee-Vandy is not even considered a rivalry here in the state, well at least by the UT fans:mj07:

LSU would have to be Alabama, Auburn and Florida:shrug:

Not necissarily a rivalry based on competitiveness (is that a word?), but I would put Vandy - UT up there as far as fan passion goes. This is primarily due to the city where Vandy is located is dominated by the orange. I would have to say that there is no loss that stings more to a UT fan than Vandy. Good thing for them, I guess, that they don't happen often.

How did I leave out Georgia - Auburn? What a shame on myself.

Thanks for the input.

Arkansas will never have a rival as big as Texas was.
Since moving to the SEC, the Bama or Ole Miss or
LSU games are getting there, but the Hogs and
Longhorns were the shit back in the SWC days.

As an Auburn grad, LSU has shown to be a hell of a decider the last few years...

Order of importance

Georgia
Alabama (the 5 in a row has changed the national thrill of the rivalry)
LSU
Florida
Tennesse
Arkansas

LSU wins in overtime last year
Auburn wins with personal foul on an extra point

Auburn vs. Alabama, Georgia

Only team to beat Florida last year...

I love the SEC...
we've had a great run the last few...

Here's my top ten:

1. Auburn-Alabama
2. Georgia-Florida
3. Alabama-Tennessee
4. Auburn-Georgia
5. Tennessee-Florida
6. Ole Miss-Mississippi State
7. Alabama-LSU
8. Georgia-Tennessee
9. Auburn-LSU
10. ???*

*-When the SEC split into 2 divisions in the early 90's, we lost some of the traditional games. Auburn suffered the most losing Tennessee & Florida. Tennessee was always our first big test in the SEC and we played many great games over the years. Auburn great Shug Jordan said that we would not know good, or bad, our team would be unitl we played Tennessee. Auburn-Florida was another rivalry lost. We have had many battles with the Gators over the years including last year when Auburn was the ONLY team that beat the 2006 National Champions. I'm sure the Gators can't wait to see us come to Gainsville 9/29/2007.

Others of note:

LSU-Tennessee(Still play every few years and have had some great battles)
Alabama-Florida(Played a few times over the years but what would happen if they played every year)
Ole Miss-LSU(They still meet every year but not the same as it was in the late 50's, 60's and early 70's.)
Alabama-Georgia(Big names in college football that only meet every few years. They do play each other this year and next)

Other great SOUTHERN rivalries:

Florida-Florida State
Georgia-Georgia Tech
South Carolina-Clemson
Florida State-Miami

I can't wait for the season to start. You know the players & coaches names change over the years but the rivalies remain the same. For some it's the thought of a white helmet with orange trim and a big orange "T" lined up across from a red helmet with white trim and white numerals. I get emotional myself at the same thought only it's a white helmet with orange & blue trim and a big"AU" across from a red helmet with a big black "G". You can't help but love college football in the south. Let the games begin & WAR "DAMN" EAGLE!!!!!:)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Saturday_in_October

http://www.amazon.com/Third-Saturday-October-Game-Game/dp/1581822170

From an article Beano Cook wrote several years ago...

If you are a fan of Tennessee or Alabama football there are two rules to live by: Don't get married on the third Saturday in October, and try not to die -- because in either case, the preacher might not show.

When the SEC went to 12 teams and a new format for scheduling, the Tennessee-Alabama game wasn't always guaranteed to be played on the third Saturday in October like it is this year. For years, the best litmus test Tennessee had for a recruit was, "Will he be there to do the job on the third Saturday in October?" If the answer was yes, it was the highest compliment a coach could give a player.

This is one of the greatest rivalries in college football, mostly because of the great coaches and players who have taken part in it. Of course, the two coaches that come to mind are Paul "Bear" Bryant and General Robert Neyland.

I want to set the record straight about something. It was General Neyland who said, "When you throw the ball, three things can happen -- and two of them are bad." He doesn't always get credit for the quote, as it is often attributed to Woody Hayes. But it was Neyland.

There are two stories that exemplify the effect Neyland and Bryant had as the coach of their respective programs. Lindsey Nelson, the famous announcer and Tennessee graduate, was waiting for Neyland with two former Tennessee players after the 1952 Sugar Bowl, which the Vols had lost, 28-13, to Maryland.

One of the former players was smoking, and the minute Neyland came out of the dressing room, the player dropped the cigarette and stomped on it so Neyland wouldn't see him smoking. Nelson turned to the player and said, "You don't have to do that -- you don't play for him anymore." The player replied, "You know that, and I know that, but I don't think the General knows that."

After Joe Namath won the Super Bowl and was the toast of Broadway, Namath talked to Paul Zimmerman of the New York Post. In the interview he told Zimmerman, "The Bear always said defense won games." The next time Namath saw Zimmerman, he claimed to he was mis-quoted. Zimmerman said, "That's what you said about the defense." Namath answered, "Yes, I said that about the defense, but I never said 'Bear.' I either called him Coach Bryant or Mr. Bryant, but I never called him 'Bear'."

Alabama leads the series 42-34-7. Bear Bryant had an overall winning record against Tennessee (16-7-2), but there was a stretch (1967-70) where he lost four straight years.

You can't lose this game consistently and expect to keep your job as the head coach of either team. It's a bigger game to Tennessee than it is to Alabama, because 'Bama's true rival is Auburn. But for both teams, it has stood the test of time. It's not only a great rivalry -- it's always a great game.

Double Two, slowly but surely #10 will be Arkansas
vs LSU or Alabama. Don't know which one, but
the Hog's will find a equal to Texas. It will take
time, but it will happen. And when it does, it will
move up the ladder. JMHO. :SIB

For all of you Auburn fans, I had a friend in college whose middle name was "War Eagle" and her sister's name middle name was "Tiger". Do you think their parents beat the Auburn theme in a little too hard since both of their daughter's chose to go elsewhere??
