Heading out there in a few weeks for a conference... All I know about the town is that they have the Canucks, used to have the Griz and is a haul and a half from Cleveland. Oh, and their tourism web site said something about having the largest homosexual population in western Canada.. :mj08:

Any 'must dos' or 'must sees' out there? Solo mission for me if that makes any difference... I'll even settle for any recommendations on good pubs or sports bars downtown?!?!?

I've obviously never been way out there, but want to make sure I make it worth the time once I get there.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'm pretty sure they have the largest everything population in Western Canada.

I had a great time in Vancouver. There are some good sports bars with plenty of American football being shown.

Goose,

I get out to Vancouver every couple of months on business, so I know a bit of it. A few questions

Are you an outdoor person? If so you want to visit stanley park, the capilano suspension bridge is really cool and worth the visit. There are a ton of trails and hikes that you can do from downtown. You can ask at the hotel in regard to different areas you can hike.

How much free time do you have?

Vancouver has some great sites to see, Canada place, China Town, which is really a city within itself. But depends how much time as Vancouver is pretty spread out.

Are you Married Single, or you don't' care. Reason I ask is Vancouver has a great "Adult Scene" so depending on what your interest are, you can really get into alot of trouble.

Lots of different bars and sports bars around. A visit to Yaletown is always in order. This is a cool bar that you can hang out and play some pool.

Yaletown Brewing Company
1111 Mainland St
Vancouver
604-681-2739

Lots of people always walking around Yaletown.

Mahoneys is a great place if you are staying downtown and just want a place to watch a game

Mahoney's Sports Grill
222-1025 Robson Street
604-662-3672

I would check out Stanley Park/Capiliano Bridge. China town and Canada Place. Those are sort of the main touristy places. But if you want more details let me know where abouts you are staying and I can let you know some things to do around the area.

There is a great little Boutique hotel if you are looking for a place to stay called Le Soleil

http://www.lesoleilhotel.com/

It is an all suite hotel on Hornby. Very nice at a reasonable price right downtown. As well it is a down the street next to a few restaurants as well as one of the city's best Gentlemen's entertainment club. Very nice if you are inclined.

Just as a warning try to stay away from the downtown east-side. Alot of heroin users and needles in the alleys there. Not a pretty place. So just don't go walking too far off the beaten stretch downtown.

Anything else ask away

Hope you have a great time

Thanks for the input, Gents...

Kneifl--Yeah, ended up going to Vegas and caught Zumanity while there. Good show, but as far as the steamy, erotic side that they were touting the whole time, I guess I thought it would have been a little more than what it was... Other than that, had a great time but lost my moon1 in the process at the Sportsbook. I'm sure I will fight another day though... :)

smurphy--Good point, I guess?? Then again, Frisco doesn't have the largest population in the western US.... Just bustin' your chops.. :)

tubby--That's helpul, thanks, I'll check out some of those links...

1%--Good Stuff. I'll be there 3 1/2 days, but tied up in covention crap-ola most of the time. Just wanted to make the most of my free time... Staying at the Sheraton Wall Centre...so not sure where that is in relation to everything, but sounds like Yaletown and Mahone's are musts. I will also try to squeeze in the others that you mentioned. If anything else happens to cross your mind, fire away!

Thanks again!!

The wall centre is downtown and if you are in meetings for most of the day then it is probably best to stick around the downtown core. Yaletown has alot of bars so you can start off at the one of them and move out from there.

If you want a nice seafood/asian fusion restaurant than Cardero's is really nice. It is in Coal Harbour, just a cab ride away from your hotel. Beautiful restaurant and nice scenery around. Many of the high rollers bring their lady friends there to eat, so you always see some talent around. You will need reservations depending on the night. Here is the info.

Cardero's Restaurant & Live Bait Yacht Club Marine Pub
1583 Coal Harbour Quay, Coal Harbour
Vancouver, BC V6G 3E7
T: 604.669.7666
F: 604.669.7609

The cap bridge usually closes around 6pm so you may not make it. I would just stick aorund the downtown core and you will have plenty to do there. Granville Island is also nice to walk around and scope out the local talent.

Have a great time.
