Texas Tech -8.5 over Smoo ***
Both teams lost almost half there starters from lyr's 35-3 game tech win. TT had over 500 total yds,Harrell at Qb had 5 td's and 350 yds passing.Smoo has super soph Willis at Qb,solid Rb,and and offense that can score.but...the problem is the Smoo defense.TT with there high powered offense and Woods at Rb can score.Leach has his 3 or 4 Wr's spread...they attack and attack. Smoo's DL is bad. Top DL Muse is out..only returning starter..2 freshman, one soph and one jr will start. There will be little pressure on Harrell. And if you give him time..well he had 4,555 yds lyr and 38 td's.He also threw more passes then anyone in the country lyr.The smoo Db's are young also but a little more experinced.
TT defense is nothing to write home about.Smoo Qb,OL and Rb will move the ball and should score...but not enough to keep up with the Raiders pace. The over 59 looks good but there is rain in the forecast...if that means anything..
Both coaches had a feud a few yrs ago over Leach running up the score in a 58-10 win.Leach will do it again if he gets the chance.Smoo has big hopes on Willis there star Qb and he's good but don't think they can keep up with the TT attack. It's a double digit win for raiders and could be a blowout..esp if the Smoo DL gets manhandled.\
Maybe Smoo could be looking ahead to next weeks oppenent..My North Texas Mean Green..we upset Smoo lyr 24-6 and kept them from a bowl game invite.Smoo had to be watching that thriller in Norman vs NT on saturday..

This week record..
won 24 boxes...lost 14
strong plays **** 3-1
3-star plays *** 2-1
2-star plays ** 3-3
1-star plays * 0-1

Tech would run up the score on a high school team...and I sure was disappointed by how many points the Sooners put up against a hapless opponent...that kind of stuff eventually finds it's way back home...just ask USC.

I love TT, but going to stay away from the total. TT is a far weaker team than in years past.
This coupled with first game jitters makes it a big number to cover. That said, good luck.

do you know that oklahoma asked for a running clock in the 4q? John Rohde, Oklahoman: Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, whose team belted North Texas, 79-10, said he requested a running clock for the fourth quarter.

also if you are talking usc as in southern cal.? pete carroll is chided for not running up the scores here in los angeles by the media and fans, he loves emptying his bench...

hey box,

good to see you posting, hope all is well ... my boy left mike deane's zoo and is back going to a CC in seattle, hoping to move on from there...

i teased TT to chargers for some rooting fun ... red raiders are 11-0 vs smu since '89 winning everyone by DD and an avg. of 27 pts ...

all my best

No...I didn't know that...but was it a request that he knew couldn't be approved anyway???

Did not USC put sixty-something on your Bruins the year before UCLA 'upset' them (last year). If my info is off, pls accept my apology.

I believe smu will be able to run on the tech d-line, and will control clock at home. I know it sounds good on paper at home, we'll see if they can control clock as they want to do. Good luck this season Box.

i can't answer to stoops intent but a sportswriter took note...
sc gave us an asskickn' in 05' but in a rivalry game its open season. versus an inferior opponent like n.texas is another thing...

Yes, he coached at Lamar while I was down there playing golf. Wild stories to say the least. The guy went with us on a Bachelor party to Vegas back in 2003. He was crazy!

Funny guy, especially when he makes fun of himself for just having one eye, but I do know guys that said they hated playing for him.

Any details on what happened with your player?

JP..Mike is one funny sob but is crazy. He coached at Delhi CC[where I was friday dropping off my last child.] where I sent about 4 or 5 of my basketball players.Deane was one hell of a coach.Became head coach at Siena,Marquette, your Lamar and now Wagner. He went to the NCAA's 3 or 4 times with 3 different teams. He was also an asst at Mich St under Heathcoate..Known him since 1974...Don't like to knock him because i've known him a long time but he's a screamer, never satisfied, and relentless on his players. He did get into trouble at marquette because they won the conf and he had a winning record...there.
Kind of a low D-1 Bobby Knight...but Knight wins all the time..schools get tired of his style...he is on the bubble this year but he did beat URI an A-10 team this yr or last..A good coach but hated by his players...kind of like lappas when he was at nova and Umass...Mike has a lot of good in him and is one of the funniest people in coaching...Pt gds kid did well in transferring ...Mike's from the old school and that doesn't make it anymore...esp when you verbally abuse 24-7...

I can completely see what you are saying when you write those things. My first year there, I had just transferred in from OU, and I really didn't know what to expect. I go to my first game, watch the guy go on these tirades that the fans love, and the guy ends up winning the conference and playing Duke in the first round of the NCAA's. Awesome guy, but a complete lunatic to say the least.

If you ever see him or his team play again, he has a coach that was a great player at Lamar and a really good friend of mine before he left to go with Mike named Kenyon Spears. Be sure to say hello for me.
