Byrnes questionable
Texas Tech center Shawn Byrnes might be unavailable for Saturday's home opener against Texas-El Paso.
Byrnes was carted off the field in Tuesday night's workout at Jones AT&T Stadium and was walking around during and after Wednesday's practice with his right foot in an orthopedic boot.
Tech does not release information on the nature or severity of player injuries.
Wednesday was the last heavy practice day of the week.
If Byrnes can't go, Stephen Hamby probably would get the start at center. Second-semester freshman Justin Keown is another possibility.
Hamby spent much of spring practice as the first-string right guard while Brandon Carter was out, but he's versatile enough to play several positions.
Hamby played center in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 49-9 Tech victory at Southern Methodist.
