Just curious, as we spend most of our lives working, I am interested in what everyone thinks is the best way to get a paycheck.
Personally, I work a 9-5 job for a big insurance company and its not so bad but really, sitting in a cube disecting company's 10-k's and what they are worth - I don't know , I guess i think there is more to employment than that.
doesnt help that i sit on a train for 3 hours a day commuting into the city.

I sell chemicals for a local distributor and I love my job. I work from home, make a decent salary + commision, paid travel. My income is based on how I want to work. It's as fair as I could ever ask for.

Plus I get to play golf on the company pretty much whenever I want.

No offense man, but I could NEVER do what you do! Makes me sick just thinking about it.

Love selling insurance. Besides the incredible flexibility of my schedule and nice commissions. I get paid based on how hard I work, AND I have helped several people put their lives back together after losses. There is a lot to be said for the satisfaction of being the first person someone calls after their home burns down, and being able to help them back up.

Teaching 180 days a year,(once every 2 days) and coaching basketball and baseball is not really a bad deal. Never going to to be super rich, but low stress and enough competition with coaching to be very very happy.

Anyone ever owned a restaurant. A local Pizza chain went out of business two weeks ago, and no one has shown interest yet. I have access to the capital required, but I'm very hesitant to move forward with it. Just curious if anyone else has had any experience with a commercial restaurant chain.

Sorry for the short reply...had a pizza coming out of the oven...:mj07: ..not really, chicken off the grill.

Franchise fee's I think would eat you up and help would be a huge problem.

GM'd a sports bar (that was franchised through it's owner's that owned it, figure that out) fee's ate up profits. Owned an independent BBQ rest....started at 6 am, closed at 9 pm...tough life unless you don't want one....

:00hour Working 40 hours a week now renting boats :00hour on the water everyday and I'm loving it....I never knew what an hour off for lunch was until now....

back to the game

Do a Subway instead. Have a close friend that bought one about 3 years ago. He now has 5 of them. Works in the mornings to make sure his deliveries arrive and then goes home to play with his kids all day.

Used to do similar workstyle to you when I was in DC.. driving 2+ hours each way to work, going to a big building and sitting in a field of cubes doing analysis and pish posh consulting type stuff that you could never figure out why you were doing it.
Not a lot of fun, well, it is.. but it isnt... right?

Just gave up a gig as a project management consultant at a DoD Agency and have now taken a spot as a Recruiter for a large DoD Consulting firm.

I work from my home office... its nice. The great part is, I can literally do this job anywhere.. just a phone and laptop... so when I take the wife to London.. we can stay an extra few weeks because I wont be burning vacation time, I'll be able to work while we are there.

If anybody gets into any kind of franchise type business....

be sure to attempt to get some type of territorial rights if they allow it

You can own a business that does 10 million an hour and they will open another ten feet away and you'll be SOL

(as much as this sucks)
spend the money always have a lawyer look at your contract/licensing agreement and learn what all the options are that you have and they have
