Season Stats: 20-14-1 (+6.90 units)

Week starts early this week with a Tuesday game.

1. MEMPHIS (-2) over Marshall (1 unit)

Injuries have played a key role in Marshall's 0-4 start, which includes a 48-35 loss to I-AA New Hampshire. All but 1 starter on the defensive line didn't make it through September without getting hurt. The Thundering Herd ranks 118th in rushing defense and 115th in scoring defense.

The Tigers rushed for 177 yards against Arkansas State last week. I look for Memphis to emphasize the ground game in this one.

There was a shooting and death on the U of M campus last night. Word is the victim is 21-year-old Taylor Bradford, a defensive lineman for the Tigers football team.

What else can go wrong for this team.
Sad stuff.

Good grief. Horrible to hear this story.

Certainly is. :(

I was not aware of the shooting at the time I posted the game. The incident had occurred, but the story had not broken.

My sympathies to the family of the students and all of the Tiger Family.

Here's hoping that Memphis can go out inspired for the whole game in what should certainly be an emotional scene at the Liberty Bowl.

2. Ohio State (-7) over PURDUE (1 unit)

Purdue runs the type of spread in which the QB is not a run threat. That is infinitely easier to defend than the true spread option with a mobile QB.

Toledo, EMU, CMU, Minny, and ND does not get a team ready to play OSU.

The big and sudden step up in class will at least negate the initial home field advantage Purdue might have.

The Minny game was a perfect warm up for Purdue. The Buckeyes played on the road at night.

All in all, Purdue is a good, but not great, offensive team who has padded its stats on some serious cupcakes. I'll be way kind and give their O 14 points. Now, who thinks their D can hold the Buckeyes to less than 21? Not me.

Started the week off with a win on Memphis...just barely! :00hour

Sticking with Conference USA for a play on Wednesday night.

3. Rice/Southern Mississippi OVER 54-1/2 (3 units)

The Owls will be without both starting defensive ends. Damion Fletcher should have a field day for USM.

Rice does get back WR Corbin Smiter from a broken foot.

The Owls are desperate, but the Golden Eagles are coming off an embarrassing loss to Boise State on national television.

This game will be well into the 60's.

Picked up another win with Southern Mississippi's big 4th quarter rally to get the over with less than 3 minutes to go. :grins:

Now 2-0 for the week (+4.00 units)!

Keeping it rolling with 1 for Thursday:

4. Kentucky (+3-1/2) over SOUTH CAROLINA (1 unit)

The Wildcats already own a pair of impressive victories over Louisville and Arkansas. Andre Woodson threw a career-best 5 TD's last week against Florida Atlantic. Kentucky leads the SEC in scoring at more than 46 points a game.

Writeups for above parlay:

Ohio State already listed above.

Wyoming has a good defense. It figures to be a rowdy crowd in Laramie. Coach Joe Glenn has improved the Cowboys' program by leaps and bounds.

Rutgers is a solid all-around team and it should be able to bounce back against a Cincinnati club that hasn't faced anyone of significance to this point. Since 2005, Rutgers is 5-1 following a loss. In New Jersey, the Scarlet Knights are a perfect 6-0 against the Bearcats.

With its close call at Mississippi and then a home loss to Auburn, Florida has looked less than stellar. They won't stay within range of LSU in Death Valley. Tigers controlled the game last year at Gainesville, but had 5 turnovers.

That's it for me this week.
